Weather Maps and Prediction...
The heart of
forecasting the is to measure all the factors that would influence any
changes in the weather. For example,
atmospheric pressure, humidity, cloud cover, cloud type, and
precipitation are a few of many influencing factors of weather change.
The measuring and recording of these anomalies will fabricate a picture that will assist in forecasting the weather. Because the process is not completely understood, our predictions of weather progression are amazingly shaky.
Radar, which is Radio Detection And Ranging, gives meteorologists data on the clouds that are accumulating. The transmitter emits 500 waves/second. Making a slow circle, the radar conveys radio waves in all directions. Then the radio waves will hit an object in their way and bounce back to the radar. The time that it takes for the waves to get back will indicate the distance of the object from the transmitter. The differences in the outgoing and incoming waves give an impression of the interferring object's makeup. A weather radar can determine if a cloud is made up of ice crystals or water droplets.
The Doppler Radar is very new to meteorologists, but is quite well-known to police because of its use in law enforcement. The Doppler Effect is used for analyzing and determining the speed of an object. When I find a subject that I want to know more about I will research it. I heard about Cystic Fibrosis and I wanted to know more so that I could understand more about what others go through. When I had time, I searched for some information on CF.

Why We Remember...
We decided to do a writing assignment on why we remember on Remembrance Day.
World War I and World War II has touched people of any age, ethnicity, and social class. Loved ones were wounded and killed. Some were sent home and forced to live with the physical and mental wounds that they received. While some were fighting, those people at home who were too young , old, weak, or women with young children would serve at home in factories, Voluntary Service Organizations, or anywhere else their help was needed.
We, who have been born in times of peace and not seen first hand what war does, do not realize that what the soldiers did affects how we live our lives. For so many people, war is a phenomenon that we have only little knowledge of. The only places that we have heard or seen war are our television set and through a newspaper articles about the distant fighting. Our closest experience may be through old war memorabilia found in our grandparent's attic (photographs, badges, medals and diaries) are not connected to the life of the owner of the artifacts.
Many people, if not all, take for granted the values and institutions that we have because we do not realize what it took to get those freedoms. Examples of these freedoms are the ability to participate in the cultural and political privileges that we have and to be able to live under the government of our choice . Essentially, Canadians believed that the beliefs and values in which we live our lives were threatened. A quote that they truly believed is, "Without freedom there can be no ensuring peace, and without peace there will be no enduring freedom."
Canadians surmised that the their actions would make a difference in our future. It is now up to us to ensure the dream of peace that they had is realized. We acknowledge our responsibility to labour for and maintain the peace that they fought to achieve. Remembering the service and sacrifice of these men and women, we need to honour the freedoms that they fought to preserve.

The Rosetta Stone
In case you are wondering, we have been
learning about Egypt in our history and so I am using some of the
information for my writing assignments.
The Rosetta Stone
Digging through the past has been a long time fascination for man. Many foreign frontiers have been opened to us by archaeology. For example, we have learned more in the past fifty years than in any of the years that were before. Up to the time when the Rosetta Stone was discovered in 1799, approximately nothing was know about the history of Egypt.
The basis for most historical knowledge is written. Almost all Egyptian records were lost at the beginning of the Christian era. With that, the last man who was able to read Egyptian writing, hieroglyphics, died. Additionally, the events of world civilization were virtually unknown. Archaeologists only had snippets of writings from the Greek and Roman historians.
The Rosetta Stone was unearthed by the French Exeditionary Force. There was an inscription of 3 languages. One was a known language, Greek, which helped construe the hieroglyphics. Jean F. Champollion was able to decipher some of the language when he was comparing the Greek language with the hieroglyphic symbols. The pictures were a language. Men would now be able to date the monuments, temples, and tombs because of the Mssr. Champollion's breakthrough and Gaston Maspero took on the work of interpreting.

What I enjoyed about a learning experience...
A Learning Experience I really Enjoyed - Swimming Lessons:
I took my last set of swimming lessons about a year ago. I enjoyed it because my friends and I had a really good instructor and she encouraged us when we struggled. She was tough, but that is why we all were able to pass our levels AND go through the Bronze Star training. She even took her day off to give us the last little bit of teaching that we needed. I also enjoyed it, because she told us about the aspects of swimming that she struggled with. She didn't just tell us to do something, but was there to explain everything we needed to know.

Egypt - gods, goddesses, and after death...
The Egyptians had dozens of gods and goddesses that they worshipped. Mainly, these dieties were significant in people's homes, villages, or towns; Re, who
was the sun god, was important through the whole land of Egypt. The
Egyptian gods and goddesses were based on and seen as animals or birds.
Since paintings would
show the gods as having human bodies and the creature's head, some
looked queer. It was customary for each god's temple to contain
one creature of the species that the god was portrayed as.
An entire species was eventually thought to house a small amount of the deity's spirit. Considering kings to be gods was common practice to the Egyptian people. Many people presumed that the spirit of Horus would dwell in each king until he died. The sun god was the first king of Egypt and all kings were believed to be descendants from Re.
In all, an Egyptian person is thought to have three souls. They are the Ka, Ba, and Akh. To have an afterlife, they thought a person's body needed to survive and be kept from decay. The poor would only have shallow graves since they could not afford mummification. The bodies in the shallow graves would dehydrate because they were so close to the surface, which preserved them. Those who could afford mummification had the painstaking process done.

Living in a strange place...
This blog entry is for our spelling "journal" entries.
How would I feel if I had to leave home and live in a strange place?(for me, the strange place will be my own apartment or house, because that is what is in my nearest future):
I would probably feel good about it at first, because I'd be in charge of myself and what I did. That would be, for the first few weeks or months, a very exhilerating experience for me. I would be able to work on my own schedule and decide when I wanted to do certain things in my time, etc... I would feel... kind of... free. Although, I don't think that it would stay that way for very long, because there would be stress and worry. I would feel lonely and "sad" not to be with my family and to be having fun with them. I would also miss spending time with dad because I have spent almost everyday of the last 8½ years (so far) with my dad always here to help me with what I have problems with. If I moved out, I would be doing things more for just myself; cooking, especially, would feel like a bit of a waste of time just for me and I wouldn't have the satisfaction that I do when I cook for others. I would probably try to work things out so that I could cook for my family still. In all, I would feel happy, sad, guilty, lonely, stressed, and worried.
There... that was kind of rambling, but it got my point across.

It takes me about 5 minutes to think of a good response for intellectual comments, because I'm not a very quick thinker. I also like to get in there and get my hands dirty, so to speak. I like to learn as I do things, from trial and error more than just following instructions.
My self-evaluation surprises me because...
I thought that I was better with my time management. I have been working on it,though. I didn't think that purpose would be strength of mine, but I hadn't really thought about it until I did the discovery wheel.

How many things do we take for granted?
Not even thinking how it would be without one thing or another,

Why do you trust Him?

Ok, I feel reverence for God all the time. He is always performing miracles. We may not notice them, because we look for the really big stuff, but they are there. We need to start looking at everything in a whole new way.
Where can you trust and reverence Him?
Let's face it, everywhere. We may not do that, but we can trust and reverence him everywhere.
What do you do when you reverence the Creator?
I admire the wonderful creation of the world, stop and take time in my day to thank God for the little things that happen as well as the big things, stop taking things around me for granted.

The Fisher - Revised
Ah... Another tale that is revised by moi.
This one was my brother's pick for a fable. I'm sure that it was
because it is short. Or maybe it was because his nickname is The
Fisher. We have to make it into 3 paragraphs. *laughs*
A Lesson Learned
One bright, captivating morning, a fisher took his bagpipes to a relucent river. He began to play with anticipation to the achievement of making the fish rise from the water because of the consistent fluid notes that drifted on the wind from his bagpipes. Yet as he played, there was not a fish in sight.
The fisher, who was exceedingly disappointed, cast his net into the water and drew a corpulently filled net in towards him. He took, again, his bagpipes and began to play.
At the sound of the music, the fish ascended from the water. The fisher noticed the movement from the fish. "So now you dance while I play, my little friends," he conveyed. A patriarchal and perspicacious fish declared, "when in man's power, you must do as he bids you to do."
There you go. Enjoy...

The "Celebrity" I respect the most... and I don't mean movie stars...
Here is another school assignment for me to blog on. I am sure that this is a subject that many people will disagree with.
The Celebrity I Respect The Most -
President George W. Bush is a well-known, and therefore "famous" person that I respect. Although his intentions may not be the best in some areas, there are many things that I do agree with. The war in Iraq is one of the things that I do agree with. This is an issue that has a lot of controversy and has probably been discussed many times.
I agree with the action that I have seen that has been taken in Iraq. There may be some things that President Bush has done that I don't approve of, but I may not know the exact reasons that he does certain things. I think that the situation with Iraq would have gotten really bad if President Bush hadn't fought back.
One of the things that I have said is that what if President Bush hadn't taken action against terrorism and then the terrorists came to Canada? Or to any other country? If it was your own country, would you be against your leader protecting your fellow countrymen? What if you had been in the building that was bombed or such a thing as that, would that have made it a different story for most of us? Probably, because of our human nature.
This is a short little blurb on why I respect President George W. Bush... If you want to debate or just talk about it, you are free to comment on it.

The Good King's Feast - Revised
Another one like the Fox and the Crow - Revised.
Persistance and Patience Pays
A great and distinguished king sent letters out to his whole kingdom. There was to be a feast, on his birthday, for all of the poorest people in his kingdom and he would give them money. From all parts of the kingdom, north and south, east and west, came to partake of the feast and birthday celebrations. One of the poor that was traveling was a blind man and he was traveling so slowly that he felt that he would never be able to reach the exquisite palace.
All of a sudden, the blind man stumbled over a medium-sized stone and fell into a lame man who was working toward the palace to have a share in the special happenings. Because he was lame, he was only able to advance a few inches at a time and was, likewise, feeling that he would not obtain his goal. Begging pardon, the blind man came upon a conclusion that would benefit both of them. "I just realized, my good sir, that if you were to climb onto my back an direct me as to where I should walk, we just may be able to arrive at the palace."
The lame man saw that the idea would profit the both of them and agreed. Their determination to endure the time it took to attain their goal and finally reached their destination. The king was ecstatic when he heard of the perseverance and teamwork that took place among two of his people. For their hard work, he rewarded them with twice the amount of gifts than any of the other people.
There you go... That is my rendition of 'The Good King's Feast' and I hope that you enjoyed it.

A Lesson in Flattery and Trust
A large crow was perched on the branch of a magnificent, old white pine and holding a piece of scent-laden Kasseri cheese. A cunning fox, with rust-red colouring and a white tail tip, materialized at the trunk of the tree and stood there. "Goodness me!!" The fox declared, "You are looking well today." The crow's eyes took on a sparkle and a small movement of her beak was seen. The fox was able to tell that she was pleased by his compliments.
The fox saw it and knew that she could be made to drop the cheese, so he forged ahead, "Your eyes..." he started, getting stuck, "they are so..." and then he spotted a shimmering lake and started over, "Your eyes have the brilliance of many suns and the beauty of all the sunsets I have ever seen. And those feathers," The fox exclaimed with mock admiration, "They make me think of the darkest night, of the cow dung that lies in the field yonder." The crow swooned at the words and thought, with pride, about her beauty until she heard about the cow dung.
The fox saw that he had said the wrong thing and quickly continued, "I have heard from the nightingale that your singing is the best in all the world. I would, surely, like to hear you sing. If your voice is as nice as your looks then, I declare, you would be the most wonderful bird I have ever encountered." Alas! The crow was thoroughly convinced, so she opened her beak wide and, after a deap breath, from her came the worst vociferation that any creature that had ever been heard. The cheese dropped to the fox and he devoured it. "Gracious! Was that yours? It was a very nice cheese, though." The crow quickly came to the conclusion that she shouldn't believe everything that she hears. And the now full fox sauntered to his den to take a nap.

Instructions on my favorite sandwich...
This is an activity in our spelling book and I decided to write it up in my blog.
How to make my favorite sandwich -
Hot roast beef sandwiches
Ingredients:
roast beef(shaved or leftover from night before)
1 c. beef stock
1 Tbsp. corn starch
4 slices bread
margarine or butter
Instructions:
Cut the roast beef in to bite sized pieces. In a saucepan, bring beef stock to a boil. Add cornstarch and stir until the stock is thickened. Stir in the beef and let simmer until warm. Toast the bread and spread margarine/butter. Pour beef and gravy over toast and enjoy. Serves 4.
