Homeschool Open House 2007

Welcome to our Homeschool Open House!

We have been homeschooling for 9 years we have 3 blessings who are 13,12 and 10yo. We live in the great state of Texas and so we start school in July to avoid boredom that being stuck inside causes. We are going into our 3rd year of using Tapestry of Grace and absolutely love it! TOG has been the best thing that has happened to our homeschooling.  We are also using a Language arts program called Character Quality Language Arts, while I am enjoying it, it does seem to go at a quick pace for the kids. It is our first year for it, but being a person not tied down to my curriculum I have slowed the pace down for my kids. Math U See is our math program and we are going into our second year of using it. For science we go to a co-op and take it there which is wonderful for us!

Our schedule for the day (and I use the word schedule loosely we don't let our time chock us! We easily adapt to the day)

9:00 chore and team work time

9:30 start school work with Character Building for Families and a logic puzzle

10:00 or sooner! Start all their individual subjects! this includes devotional, logic, math, cqla, geography and health (for my oldest) anything but TOG is done during this time (includes co-op homework)

12:00 LUNCH

1:00 TOG we normally try to work an hour and a half! And they are to do there reading and notebooking and anything on their assignment sheet! We also have a discussion time at least once during the week

Aug. 5, 2007 - slowing down

Posted by erbcmichele

That slowing down thing has been such a hard lesson for me. However, I have noticed that slowing down really speeds things up in the end. We don't have to re-learn things because they missed it the first time.

Math-U-See has been our math curriculum for six years now. It really has worked for us. My oldest just changed to VideoText Interactive for Algebra for a change of pace.

Most people I have read who use TOG love it, I might have to check into that one.
