Student of the Word Curriculum...... Teaching the Word of God as a curriculum...

Posted in Around the House

In light of my post yesterday on the Church of Oprah, Dh and I have decided to take a closer look at what we are teaching in our homeschool and why.  We have been very academic the last 6 years of homeschooling.  I have worried over what Math programs to use and this year the big worry has been what Chemistry program to use.  I have never really pondered on what Bible curriculum to use.  Don't get me wrong, we feel strongly about living, really living our Christian walk.  We read the Word of God and we meditate and memorize.  These things are important to us.  However, sometimes they can be lax and put on the back burner for a spelling test or writing assignment.  I believe that that mentality needs an adjustment.  I believe that my children need to be more prepared for a life of warfare with Satan and His spirits here on earth.  1 John 3:24-4:6

We are looking at using a curriculum called Student of the Word next year.  It looks to be very Bible intensive.  Has anyone used it and what are your thoughts?

Have a great day and blessings to all,

Trixi

This truly disturbed me.....

I was doing my surfing tonight and landed over at Jacque's blog, Seeking Rest in the Ancient Paths.  She has an amazing post on the Church of Oprah.  She has some great links and You Tube clips so please go and check them out.  I have never been an Oprah watcher but she is an extreme figure in our society today.  I heard somewhere this week that she is worth over 200 million dollars.  She is powerful over our society in ways we can only imagine and now she is getting involved in our political ring by heavily endorsing Barack Hussein Obama.  It is scary where our country is headed.  Please join with me and Pray without Ceasing for God's hand of mercy on this country.

Blessings,

Trixi

If the Lord Wills It

Posted in Around the House

This has been a busy, busy week.  We have a semi-annual camp out with our church every spring and fall.  Well, it was set for this weekend.  We have been hurridly preparing to camp.  We did a great deal of school on the front of the week and then took all day Thursday to bake and cook for meals and snacks for the camping.  The beginning of the week middle DD came down with fever at night but it left her during the day.  She felt better by Wednesday and Thursday, so we went ahead with plans.  At the same time, it rained (thank you Jesus for sending rain) all week even Thursday, but we were still all systems go because the forecast looked beautiful for the weekend.  However,  middle DD had fever on Thursday night.  DH said she did not need to be out in damp cold weather and be borderline sick.  So we did not go set up on Friday and now it looks like we will just be going for the day of fellowship on Sunday, Lord willing.  If the Lord wills it we will go early Sunday morning and have church and spend all day fellowshipping.

This leads me to James 4:13-15

Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit."  Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow.  You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.  Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that." James 4:13-15

We can not say we are doing this or that.  We do not know what God has in store.  His plan is so much better than what we could ever plan.  I shutter to think about when we first got married and were making choices for our family.  We made some horrible mistakes because we were doing our will instead of His will.  I hope today that I am walking more in His will than mine.

In conclusion to this statement, I will say that we are having a great weekend doing what God willed for us instead of what we willed.  It is so sweet how God shows us just what we need at the time we need to see it.

Blessings,

Trixi
