Thought Provoking

Posted in Homelife

I just finished reading a very thought provoking book called The Hidden Art of Homemaking by Edith Schaeffer.
I thought I was getting a 'how to' book on homemaking... complete with tips and tricks... you know the drill.
What I actually got, was a book on how to make homemaking an art form, using the God given talents you possess.
Mrs. Schaeffer, a talented writer, had a gift for making the ideas come alive and become easily imagined in your mind.
The ideas were superb... if you like to draw, she suggests you might use it to decorate the menu for the week (I always make a weekly menu, but never considered this!).
Or if you love music, perhaps you could practise at home or when you are stressed...
She goes on to suggest ideas for those who love to write or dramatise or create or bake.
She tells you how you can share your gift with others...
It sounds very simplistic written down... but I can assure you, that if you ever get a hold of the book to read, that you will thoroughly enjoy it!

I also read that book this year! It wasn't exactly what I was expecting either, but I did enjoy it. My favorite thing was how she said that we are made in the image of the Creator and in order to accurately portray Him to others, we ourselves must create!

I also love this book. It is so inspiring to make your house a beautiful haven where your family can find rest for their weary souls. You make me want to read it again. When of my favorite parts is when she describes how she draws pictures that go along with the sermon for her children.

Yes... I loved those parts too... especially how we should dress as befitted the creator and as for the sermon notes... I thought *that* was inspired! Although I don't know about the hour and a half sermon!!!
Definitely read it again!

I read this years ago..... I remember being struck, for the first time, that God is an artist ... 'The Artist'. It was such a profound moment ... realizing that He could have made all flowers, snowflakes, trees, etc. the same .... or made none of it at all, yet He chose to give us beautiful things! I'll have to dig this one out again -- I haven't read it in a long time. :)
