Jun. 2, 2006 - LCC & TJEd

Hi! I enjoy reading your blog! I just finished reading the Latin-Centered Curriculum. I noticed that you have also read "A Thomas Jefferson Education". I like the simplicity of LCC but I think it will be difficult to jump into with my 16yo. How would you compare the two?

And if you join the LatinClassical Ed yahoo grou ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LatinClassicalEd ) the you can get help from people in the same boat :)
I think you can at the very least, adapt the principle... which is to study a good book in depth... there are a number of selections to choose from :) and LCC does help with that too ;)

Jun. 5, 2006 - As for the comparison

Posted by spinneretta
I'd say they gel quite well... I just saw a copy of a schedule for the TJed Secondary ages... and it was very similar. They both focus on the GOOD books... as opposed to mediocre... they both like to study just a few of these at that level too.
AND they both emphasise the mentor approach... the best way to teach is by example... and you and your children can both study the books and have a 'book group' discussion with them afterwards. Think of them both as 'Socratic' learning methods... you do the guiding in the form of questions made to make them think about what they read/believe :)

Thank you for sharing that, I have nothing to add but I wanted to let you know I was here. I will be checking at the yahoo group mentioned too. (even though I can't stand how the yahoo groups are set up)
A calling card,
