Music Lessons

Posted in Homeschooling

Sometimes you just manage to capture something precious with the camera... and this is definitely one of those moments!
My MIL played guitar, and gave the little one to DS.  I play a little classical guitar and taught the kids the other day, one of the basic notes...
But DD just LOVES to sing 'Button Moon' which is her adaptation of a Theme Song from a kids show I loved when I was not much bigger than she!!

Here she is singing it...

And here is DS with his keyboard

And here is the real "Button Moon"

Jun. 11, 2006 - How cute!

My 2 yr old seems to be very musically inclined, so his grands have supplied him with a guitar, drums, bongos, and we have gotten him a recorder, marcaras, play toy piano. His sister is starting recorder lessons at home this year. I haven't played a thing since middle school when I was in band and played the flute, over 15 years ago!

Thank you for sharing your darling pictures...too bad we can't put cute headlines on them. Like Born to Rock or something. LOL

Those pictures are just adorable! From a music educator's point of view, you can't start too soon getting the kids comfortable with musical instruments. In school, many children are not exposed until the fourth grade, when the music teacher or band director will teach a class on recorders or basic classroom instruments. I actually think that's a late start, but part of the reasoning is that their fingers simply are not large enough for some instruments until they are nine or ten. It's also possible that they feel there is not enough breath capacity for wind instruments, but I taught fourth graders beginning instruments and they didn't have a problem.

I applaud you for encouraging your children's interests, and hope that your budding musicians bloom into lovers of music.
