LENT is almost here!

Posted in Homeschooling

Tomorrow marks the beginning of Lent.  Yesterday marks the day I realised this unassailable fact.
It also marks the day I decided to declare a two day holiday while I prepared the study i wanted to do for Lent.
Thanks to the kind ladies at The 4 Real Learning Forums I have been provided with a base for the Lenten study.
The group has a wonderful study based around the Easter Vigil service, studying the meaning behind some of the practises, making a notebook comprising all the things they learn.  They memorise prayers, draw pictures, make illuminated manuscripts...
My only problem is that I am not at all sure we'd manage to make a Vigil Service... it is usually either very early in the morning or late at night!
Oh well... perhaps this can at least bring some of the meaning of Easter to us...

And in honour of today being PANCAKE DAY... I urge you to check out this great, healthy wholewheat pancake recipe at my friend Jill's site...

Hey Rachel,
I'm just the oppisite. An American living in England!! Glad you had a nice pancake day. I spent Monday night making 96 pancakes for our parent and toddler group at church yesterday! Quite a marathon!!! At least the toddlers seemed to enjoy them and the sticky smiles made it all worth while! My 2 boys made quite a dent in the stack at breakfast too!!!

Mar. 2, 2006 - Thanks for the info!

Rachel - Thanks for the information on the classical books! I'm just trying to get my head around how it all works in practice.I'll check those out! We live in Yorkshire. We lived in Bristol for about 6 years and I didn't like that very much, then we moved up here with my hubby's work and I discovered that I really DID like England after all!! :) (Sorry if I seem a little cagey with personal info! We are having some real problems in the home ed community in England at the moment, so I'm keeping my identifying information on here to a minimum. The problem is with other home ed'ers who are anti-TOS!) How is your english accent? Do your family tell you that you sound American yet? How long have you been over there? I've been here for 12 years. It is strange, some people say I sound so american and others say I sound english - not sure which is right or wether I change day to day! I just can't hear it. What do you miss about England? Can you get decent tea where you are?Or do your family send it over to you? I can't stand american tea now - except for ice tea! If I ever moved back I would have to bring a suitcase full of tea with me!! Now I know that sounds English - LOL!!! Till later - Deborah
