The Household Notebook

Posted in Homelife

Once a staple of the homekeeper's art, the household notebook (and all it's useful wisdom) has sadly all but disappeared in today's society.
That is, except for those of us trying to resurrect it.
Mine is not traditional.  It is not finished either!  But here are the pictures of it.

The Notebook: I have yet to decorate the cover.  I am planning something good though!

And inside...

A converted ziploc baggie with all my goodies in it, and some scratch paper in the cover.
Next, comes the master schedule:

Then comes my morning, evening and Sunday routines:

Followed by a weekly task list... in progress:

After that, I have my daily tasks sorted out behind a divider for each day:

Monday includes the house blessing:

as well as a list for detailing the living room and hallways:

After the daily tasks, I have a few cleaning product recipes!

Next I have dividers for each month, and a calendar in there.  Here I put in the important dates, such as when to mail my Grandmother's card!

Then I have a recipe section for my recipes... either ones I use often or that I created or copied from a book from the library:

Next is my homeschool section... containing planning stuff for homeschool and some
actual homeschool stuff we'll be using that I have pre-preinted out.

After the homeschool stuff, I have copies of both Proverbs 31 and Titus 2 for Inspiration!

And then finally comes my address book.

Various things are found in here, including my sketch for making the kitchen curtains!
I hope this helps some people to know what a 'homekeeping' notebook is, and inspires you to make one!

What a great idea! One ? is where did you get the master copies of your list pages? Did you make them or did you find them somewhere? I have a hard time coming up with a blank list that is actually practical. Just a thought as well, in light of the news about Missy last week. This kind of notebook would prove to be worth it's weight in gold if anything were to happen to us. It would help our DH's and families to know how to keep the home functioning if we weren't there to do it. What a help it could be to know 'how' to make that favourite family meal that isn't in any recipe book, or more of that cleaning product that you can't buy in the stores. Or even when certain jobs normally get done and how. I know my DH wouldn't have a clue (bless him) how to do all of this! And in the meantime it will make us more organized, which I KNOW my family would enjoy greatly!! LOL

AWESOME JOB!!! I love your notebook and you've done a great job. I'm so inspired now. I have a notebook with my schedule and my Homeschool schedule but not much else, but regularly used recipes and the other things you have are a great idea. I am doing this!!

And deedeeuk makes a very good point. Poor Zorak would have to change things drastically if anything were to happen to me. A book like this would help.

I start them, love organizing them and writing in them, and then they go the way of my paper journals - untouched until I find them in the next move. *sigh* This needs to be added to this year's goals.

That is so neat!! I'd be interested in seeing the schedules up close, too. That was a very helpful thing to see it and have it explained in detail.
