A few things to ponder

Posted in Newsworthy

So, it came up on one of my groups... a quote about guns that I thought I might share for your edification

"To ban guns because criminals use them is to tell the innocent and law-abiding that their rights and liberties depend not on their own conduct, but on the conduct of the guilty and the lawless, and that the law will permit them to have only such rights and
liberties as the lawless will allow... For society does not control crime, ever, by forcing the law-abiding to accommodate themselves to the expected behavior of criminals. Society controls crime by forcing the criminals to accommodate themselves to the expected behavior of the law-abiding." ---Jeff Snyder

How did I miss this?

Posted in Newsworthy

Ok, so its kind of annoying when you find out a movie was being made in your neck of the woods, and you didn't know, but it is even more annoying to know that there are really famous people in it and you still didn't know!!!
Check it out!

Hurricanes and victims...

Posted in Newsworthy

OK I am having a hard time holding my tongue... so you can ignore this one if you like, it's just me spouting off!
I seem to recall that the tsunami victims helped themselves when they were unable to get to them because the roads were blocked. I recall them being grateful, GRATEFUL when help was offered. They didn’t squall and squeal about how they were being neglected or how desperate they were!
Truthfully, federal aid is slow in coming… and I understand that people are sick, thirsty, hungry and dying, but for goodness sake, don’t shoot the rescue helicopters!
Are they oblivious to the flood waters around them? Do they not see that there is but one way into and out of New Orleans? Do they not think that maybe their lawlessness is preventing the rescue attempts?
The worst factor in all of this is the attempts by the ‘racial rights’ groups to blame this all on the fact that most of those left in New Orleans are black.
Does race have anything to do with anything? Not at all… not unless they are willing to blame the lawlessness on race. The truth is that there are a lot of people out there who chose to ride out the storm. There are a lot of people who are ignoring the suggestions that they leave the area on foot.
They are not looking for the shelters that are open, they are not trying to help themselves. There is an old quote that Aesop used in one of his fables… Hercules and the Wagoner: God helps those who help themselves.
The number of aid workers is vastly outnumbered by the HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of victims from the hurricane. They are not able to help every living soul screeching from the street. And federal aid is going first to those who cannot help themselves. The sick, wounded, elderly people in the hospitals. The people still trapped in the flood waters. How are they supposed to help the people who sit on the side of the road crying, if they wont try to help themselves?
I remember the tsunami, how it took DAYS for the aid to get there. But I also remember that the tsunami victims were helping each other. They were helping each other to go through what was left, to escape from areas of danger. They didn’t wait for aid… they did it themselves.
What does it say about the state of our nation, when the people who have been victimized by nature sit there and cry about it, waiting for a handout.
Now I am not saying that every victim did this. But there are an awful lot, in one particular city, who are doing exactly this.
The world is not looking kindly on them… and the world who knows, are the ones making the judgement.

"I am absolutely disgusted. After the tsunami our people, even the ones who lost everything, wanted to help the others who were suffering," said Sajeewa Chinthaka, 36, as he watched a cricket match in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

"Not a single tourist caught in the tsunami was mugged. Now with all this happening in the U.S. we can easily see where the civilized part of the world's population is."

Doctors are being mugged for drugs. Marshall law had to be enacted, with returning troops from Iraq being ordered to shoot anyone stealing the drugs.
I am disgusted and appalled at this picture the world is getting of our victims. Because in other states, other cities, there is no problem. People are doing exactly as they should. We are all wanting to give… are giving.
The world is giving.
What makes them think they are the only ones who should receive?

Disaster Relief... help.

Posted in Newsworthy

I came across this site Michelle Malkin urging bloggers to help the relief efforts. She has a number of charities listed, although I feel the Red Cross probably needs a lot more money... if you feel so inclined, please give.

Destruction

Posted in Newsworthy

Just looking on the TV this morning, the images were horrific. I felt so sorry for all the people in Louisiana and Mississippi, the loss of their homes, their lives and more.
It is strange but the homeschooling community is spread wide, and not a few are in Louisiana and Mississippi. I am hoping and praying they are all well.
