Welcome to My Blog!

Schooling two active boys has never been more... interesting. That's the word I'm looking for! I love my boys! God has given them the blessing of strong, active bodies and minds. We continually pray the first will remain intact, and the second will remain engaged with Him first, and then the school work. You'll meet my sweet sons, both entirely different, but both loving God to the best of their ability in the way He made them. I lovingly refer to them as my Bell Pepper Boy and my Habanero or Hambone. That should say it all! This blog is an eclectic mix. The events, conversations, and the thoughts behind it all will be in here. Every once in a while I'll try to capture something I don't want to forget. I hope you find things you enjoy. Please let me know if you do! Blessings!

A Mommy Multi-tasking? *tisk tisk*

Posted in Mom Things
*Previously posted on my old blog site.*

It never ceases to amaze me that I can and should learn from my sons. One thing that has been a not-so-gentle reminder from my younger son relates to the attention I give him. I realize that I multi-task on a regular basis. I suppose I hadn't noticed that multi-tasking means something isn't getting my full attention. This, however, does not escape the keen sensitivities of my son.

In the middle of an e-mail, my son will approach. The words are nearly always the same: Mom, I have a question.

I respond with a pathetic acknowledgement like, "What."

He will ask his question, and I hear it. But, in the middle of the multi-tasking moment, my response is slow. Even seconds count, I now realize.

His response is clear: Mom, you're igno-o-o-o-o-o-ring me! (Add a sing-song quality for effect!)

I've tried explaining my position, but he recognizes something I have to admit: I am preoccupied. He sees it. He knows it. He's right.

My goal for this week is to avoid hearing: Mom, you're ignoring me!

Hopefully, I can do better at putting aside things that wait, and focus on the things that shouldn't wait.
