Welcome to My Blog!

Schooling two active boys has never been more... interesting. That's the word I'm looking for! I love my boys! God has given them the blessing of strong, active bodies and minds. We continually pray the first will remain intact, and the second will remain engaged with Him first, and then the school work. You'll meet my sweet sons, both entirely different, but both loving God to the best of their ability in the way He made them. I lovingly refer to them as my Bell Pepper Boy and my Habanero or Hambone. That should say it all! This blog is an eclectic mix. The events, conversations, and the thoughts behind it all will be in here. Every once in a while I'll try to capture something I don't want to forget. I hope you find things you enjoy. Please let me know if you do! Blessings!

Wasps. . .and Waning Decks?

Posted in School Things
*Previously posted on my old blog site.*

I was reading a book with my younger son that I picked up at a booksale this weekend. (A DK book on BUGS...which, apparently, are insects that have mouthparts that pierce and suck, in case you were curious.) We were reading about paper wasps. He recognized many of the types on the page looked just like the ones that live here. (Not surprising.) What we were reading mentioned that the wasps use wood to make their nests. A little chewing, a little spit, and they can make a pretty impressive place for eggs and grubs.

Son: We have wasps outside. They have a nest on the garage....where we were spitting apple juice. Sorry about the spitting, Mom. But, there are lots of wasps in the nest.

Me: Oh. Hmmm. (Trying to ignore the part about the juice for the moment.) Does the nest look like one of these on the page?

Son: Yes.

A few seconds of silence....with accompanying turning wheels....

Son: MOM!

Me: WHAT?

Son: Mom! The wasps are using our deck and our fence to make their nest!!! They are eating our DECK!

Me: Yep. You're right! Way to go! That's pretty intuitive. (I love tossing out big words for fun.)

Son: Mom! They are EATING our deck and fence!

Me: Do you see holes yet?

Son: No.

(silence)

Son: They don't eat much, do they?

Me: I don't think so. Let me know if you start to see holes.

Well, there you go...another moment in my world! *grin* Always worth a couple giggles or head-scratches.
