Welcome to My Blog!
Schooling two active boys has never been more... interesting. That's the word I'm looking for!
I love my boys! God has given them the blessing of strong, active bodies and minds. We continually pray the first will remain intact, and the second will remain engaged with Him first, and then the school work. You'll meet my sweet sons, both entirely different, but both loving God to the best of their ability in the way He made them. I lovingly refer to them as my Bell Pepper Boy and my Habanero or Hambone. That should say it all!
This blog is an eclectic mix. The events, conversations, and the thoughts behind it all will be in here.
Every once in a while I'll try to capture something I don't want to forget. I hope you find things you enjoy. Please let me know if you do!
Blessings!

A Boy and His Dog
Posted in Boy Things
*Previously published on my old blog site.*
There are tough moments. There are the moments you'd rather forget. Sometimes things just get away from you, and there doesn't seem to be a quick fix, an easy solution, or an answer that satisfies. We've had a couple moments in the last couple weeks like that. I'm just now getting to writing about them because they are as tough for me as they are for the boys. I've decided to share them here because they just need to be shared...and remembered.
The first sad moment was a bit shocking. It's been two weeks now since our male greyhound passed away completely unexpectedly. He was only 8. There were no indicators. He just went out in the yard after breakfast, and that was it. We were all very stunned.
My younger son was very affected by this whole thing. He said things I want to remember:
"Mom, when Monty was here, I had a great idea. Now that he's not here, I can't use my great idea."
"Mom, is Monty going to be in heaven? I really think he should be."
"Mom, I miss Monty. He was a cool dog. He liked me."
He's right. We had one very cool dog, and he liked us. He even got over his fear of scissors in the hands of young children eventually. But, that's another story.
In another turn of events, we lost our first family dog that was given to us by a military family leaving the area and unable to take their beagle. She was a great dog. She was probably my younger son's favorite. She put up with everything he did. (She didn't have hair that was spikeable, so she was more safe than the sheltie.) I will never know how much of dinner went into her and how much went into my boys. She kept our floors clean. She also levitated around food (a bittersweet memory).
Sadly, our beagle is no longer with us, and my son has been a bit sad about it. One week later, when he's tired, stressed or otherwise sad, he will cry and say he misses her.
These are the moments that remind me of what a soft heart this boy has. My habanero boy may have lots of spice, but he's an animal lover to the core. We really connect on that. I'm glad he's that way. |
