Welcome to My Blog!

Schooling two active boys has never been more... interesting. That's the word I'm looking for! I love my boys! God has given them the blessing of strong, active bodies and minds. We continually pray the first will remain intact, and the second will remain engaged with Him first, and then the school work. You'll meet my sweet sons, both entirely different, but both loving God to the best of their ability in the way He made them. I lovingly refer to them as my Bell Pepper Boy and my Habanero or Hambone. That should say it all! This blog is an eclectic mix. The events, conversations, and the thoughts behind it all will be in here. Every once in a while I'll try to capture something I don't want to forget. I hope you find things you enjoy. Please let me know if you do! Blessings!

Adventures in the Land of Ow!

Posted in Boy Things
*Previously published on my old blog site.*

This is one of those moments that I have to preface with an "Everybody's okay...now." It wasn't one of those times I enjoy. It sure was exciting, but far from fun.

Our younger son has a tendency to bump, bruise, or generally wound himself under various and sundry circumstances. It's kind of the way it is. He is quite clear that I should not respond in any way that draws attention to him when this happens and, if it is an emergency, he'll let me know. Thankfully, there haven't been too many accidents over his five and three-quarters years. So, we're relatively okay...most of the time.

Well, we had one of those things that turned out to be more than we anticipated. My little man was standing on the rungs of his kitchen chair, equaling about four "deadly" inches from the floor. You know, it wasn't anything I would have thought a problem. But, I did actually notice him doing it, and I did say he should get down. Somehow, I just thought it wasn't a good thing, but I assumed it wasn't a good thing for the chair. It never crossed my mind that it might be a problem for the boy.

A few seconds later, the chair spun out from under the boy, and the boy went down. I still don't know exactly what happened to this day. All the conversation and questions after this event have basically led us nowhere.

My son was crying loudly, and I moved quickly to check it out. It just wasn't that usual cry we get when he's hurt. Actually, we rarely get a cry when he's hurt himself. Maybe that was why I moved so fast.

After a few seconds of checking him over and asking where it hurt, I couldn't find anything. There just wasn't anything that told me it was a critical moment. So, we walked a few feet, and that's when it got interesting. Eight feet away from his first fall, he fell again. He fell straight back and hard. The thud of his head on the floor probably got me first. Then his very sluggish movement got my attention. He was out cold for a few seconds. And, as a bonus, his lips turned blue.

Seconds later, he was awake. Minutes later, he was still coming out of it all.

Well, the blue lips and sluggishness made all the difference. It wasn't long before Daddy was on his way home, and then the two of them were on their way to get checked out. And, yes, they were sent to the E.R.

Four and a half hours and a few thousand dollars later, the little man was home. Everything was fine, and we were just told to keep a close eye on him, wake him every couple hours, that kind of thing.

And the little man said, "That was so fun! Mommy, you should go there! You get to have a really cool bed, play games and watch T.V!"

"Son, I'm glad it was a good time, but I have no intention of going there unless I really *need* to go. It's very expensive."

"Oh. Is it more than ten dollars?" he asked.

"Yeah, it's a lot more than that," I said.

He thought for a second and said, "Oh. Well, you should still go, Mom. It sure is fun!"

*sigh*

A very expensive adventure. Our deductible for the year is taken care of now.
