Welcome to My Blog!

Schooling two active boys has never been more... interesting. That's the word I'm looking for! I love my boys! God has given them the blessing of strong, active bodies and minds. We continually pray the first will remain intact, and the second will remain engaged with Him first, and then the school work. You'll meet my sweet sons, both entirely different, but both loving God to the best of their ability in the way He made them. I lovingly refer to them as my Bell Pepper Boy and my Habanero or Hambone. That should say it all! This blog is an eclectic mix. The events, conversations, and the thoughts behind it all will be in here. Every once in a while I'll try to capture something I don't want to forget. I hope you find things you enjoy. Please let me know if you do! Blessings!

How Are Babies Made?

Posted in Boy Things
*Previously published on my old blog site.*

Yes, we all know the questions are coming. We don't know when. We don't know which moment in life will contain the ambush of the "baby question" we all dread. Of course, in my experience, the question always seems to add a little giggle in my day, too, at these boys' young ages. So, I've learned to master the straight face I'll need for that very moment.

Today, is Habanero Boy's birthday! This morning was a wonderful time of hanging out and telling him how cool he is. (There are many hilarious elements to this morning, but I'll stick with the "ooey, gooey mommy love" moments for now.) I told him that 6 years ago my belly was quite a bit bigger because he was inside. I told him we had just moved into our house nine days before, and I was in a hurry to finish preparing his room for him. I told him that he picked that day to come, and we were excited about his arrival. And, I told him we had picked his name for him long before we'd seen him. I was talking to him all day, telling him it was a good day to come out.

Of course, as a boy might, he thoroughly enjoyed the attention, but all the "ooey, gooey mommy love" was pretty much lost on him. (Oh, well. . .)

He looked at me and said, "Mom, when you're pregnant, is that when you're going to have a baby?"

"Yes, son," I said and smiled, since I knew this was the ambush moment.

With a very serious look on his face he asked, "When a man kisses a woman, does some of the man go into the woman?"

"Well, son, no. It's not exactly like that," I said as I choked the urge to giggle.

Still puzzled and serious, he said, "Then when you drink from a cup, is that how some of the man gets into the woman?"

Impressed with his creativity and still fighting the urge to giggle, I said, "No, but that's how germs are passed from one person to another. Do you think we should ask Daddy these questions?"

With excitement, he answered, "Yeah! That's a great idea! I'll ask Daddy!"

We walked to the bathroom to share our teachable moment with Daddy. He just happened to be finishing up his shower. (I know, that's probably TMI. Sorry.)

Daddy heard our son's theory on kissing and passing "part of the man into the woman" and handled it quite well. His response, of course, was a little different than mine.

With logic and a slight tone of incredulity, he said, "Son, if I kiss you, part of me doesn't go into you, does it?"

The boy was quite clear and added, "When a man kisses the woman on the mouth!"

I was behind the boy releasing myself to the urge, silently laughing hysterically! I couldn't handle it any more. He was so serious! (Have I mentioned that I enjoy these moments more now than I thought I would?)

Daddy handled the moment. He made sure Habanero Boy was clear that kissing did not yield babies. Glad we took care of that!

(I'll be giggling all day, I fear!)

That's a great post. Thanks for visiting my site. I've been flipping thru your posts, and I just HAD to share on this one :)

Okay, so we're eating dinner all calm and such (odd I know, with three boys), when our oldest (7) announces to daddy that he knows the difference between boys and girls. My hubby casts a wary glance my way thinking I didn't inform him about some of the lessons we were going to be covering that day :) Hubby warily asks what the difference is. Our oldest says, "Boys know all about super heroes. Girls just don't care." Oh man, you want to talk about great relief and failed attempts at stifling giggles.
