Welcome to My Blog!
Schooling two active boys has never been more... interesting. That's the word I'm looking for!
I love my boys! God has given them the blessing of strong, active bodies and minds. We continually pray the first will remain intact, and the second will remain engaged with Him first, and then the school work. You'll meet my sweet sons, both entirely different, but both loving God to the best of their ability in the way He made them. I lovingly refer to them as my Bell Pepper Boy and my Habanero or Hambone. That should say it all!
This blog is an eclectic mix. The events, conversations, and the thoughts behind it all will be in here.
Every once in a while I'll try to capture something I don't want to forget. I hope you find things you enjoy. Please let me know if you do!
Blessings!

The Antici---pation!
Posted in God Things
Two young sons. A Christmas tree with trimmings and beautifully wrapped gifts, each with a name. Christmas Eve. Need I say more? (It's not all that different from the circling you might see at an air traffic control tower.)
I can appreciate their point of view. The excitement and anticipation is so real and so childlike and special! There it is, a gift with their name on it, sitting so innocently under the tree. It's just calling out the name on the tag, and they know it! How can they, or anyone, resist? (Honestly, I've cast a glance in that direction toward a "whispering package" myself.)
Don't we all know the excitement of the beautifully wrapped secret surprise just waiting for us? Some of us are content to just look, while others of us pick it up, shake it, try to visualize what might be hidden within and guess the contents that wait for us! I'm a bit of a picker-upper-shaker-guesser when no one is looking, in case you were curious.
Okay, so how does all this fit into Christmas for me? Well, I think of it like this: Jesus has given me the most precious gift in His coming, living, and dying on this little spinning blue marble of a planet. He gave everything, so that I might have everything. No, we don't get it all now. This is the ultimate gift that keeps on giving. There's the initial secret surprise within the package that promises life, and life to the full...even an eternal life with Jesus in heaven! But, then there is the additional gifts that come along with it. Maybe they are a little like stocking stuffers, or maybe it's a little more like the scavenger hunt that produces the most wonderful (or interesting) surprises along the way. One thing I can say for sure is that the initial gift is never entirely revealed. Our lives unfold with new "gifts" from Jesus throughout the year...throughout the years!
So, here we are. It's Christmas Eve. Did you have a time where you opened the initial gift with Jesus? At some point many of us have a conversation that goes a little like this: "You know, there is something about You, Jesus, that I need more of in this life. I'm not all that impressed with what I can do with my own smarts, strength, resources. Can you, who can do all things, do more with my life than I can? Let's do life that way, then!" (And the initial Christmas gift is opened!)
We open that gift with Jesus, and we find a manger, a cross, and a throne. Quite surprising that it doesn't end with the manger. Jesus was so cute that way! No, he traveled to the cross 33 years later. Talk about the gift that keeps on giving! What more can you give than the surrender of life? Then, He takes His seat above all kings, above all things, and we have the chance to surrender all of our lives to Him! He can take the broken pieces, the little beginnings, the hardships, the successes, the needs, the little mass of what we call our lives...and He can make something GREAT!
Wow! He can do that? Yes, He can do that! He DOES do that! He WILL do that!
So, that gift from Jesus sits under the tree, tagged with a name. Is it yours? Do you hear the whisper? What will you do? Are you a "glancing" person? Or, are you a "picker-upper-shaker" person? In any case, what will you do?
If you opened that gift days, weeks, months, or years ago, are you still noticing and appreciating the gift that keeps on giving? Have you sent little prayer "thank you notes" to Jesus for all He's given? Have you thanked Him today? Will you consider thanking Him tomorrow?
Oooooooh! The antici---pation! What will the gifts be for you in the moments, days, and years to come?
