Welcome to My Blog!

Schooling two active boys has never been more... interesting. That's the word I'm looking for! I love my boys! God has given them the blessing of strong, active bodies and minds. We continually pray the first will remain intact, and the second will remain engaged with Him first, and then the school work. You'll meet my sweet sons, both entirely different, but both loving God to the best of their ability in the way He made them. I lovingly refer to them as my Bell Pepper Boy and my Habanero or Hambone. That should say it all! This blog is an eclectic mix. The events, conversations, and the thoughts behind it all will be in here. Every once in a while I'll try to capture something I don't want to forget. I hope you find things you enjoy. Please let me know if you do! Blessings!

Hooky and Other Such Things. . .

Posted in Mom Things
Well, today is Friday. Normally, we would be at our home school group this morning, but we're playing a bit of a game of "hooky" this week. Honestly, we took this week off for our spring break, and we decided that meant a break from  everything. If Habanero is almost better, I didn't want to delay his recovery. (Yes, I've become the over protective mom late in the week.)

So, today's entry was bound to be a little "loose" for me. I didn't have any tags to do. I haven't kept up with my Blogger Friend School. (Maybe next week?) The boys haven't done anything particularly challenging, excessively cute, or anything. So, what to write about. . .

Hmmmm. . .

I thought I would do a quick survey of my friends to see if you are like me or not in one particular area: product research before a purchase. How far do you take it?

My example is that I tend to research a product area fairly thoroughly before major purchases. I checked reviews of cars when I could before buying. Normally, I would spend time reading through various review sites before getting a new phone, appliance, vacuum, etc. We researched our dog breeds very thoroughly before adding most of them to our house. (The chi-mix escaped research somehow.) You get the idea. I'm a bit of an info-nerd when it comes to new things. (Does that make me Type A?)

The reason this sticks in my mind today is because, as you may have read, Monday was the day I upgraded my phone for free. (Free feels soooooo good!) I didn't get to research the new phone the way I would normally have, but I've heard good things about the brand. I was okay with it, considering I only had a few choices, and this seemed to be the best of the bunch. Any phone that synchs with my computer contacts and calendar in 30 seconds is going to get my vote!  *giggle*

Well, the next thing that happened was I had no hands-free option with this particular phone other than the speaker phone, which isn't really hands-free. So, I thought my birthday money might be able to get me one of those new-fangled, Lieutenant Ohura-like things for my ear. (I never thought I'd go this way, but it's apparently the way to go in this day and age.)

Enter the research. I knew nothing, so finding the reviews was essential. My darling husband has one, but I've not liked parts of how his "behaves" when I'm talking with him on the phone. I searched. I searched more. A couple hours later, I had it narrowed down to a couple options in the same brand. Then, my mom called. She had something else, of course, to toss into the mix. I researched that. Guess what? Her brand had better reviews. Hmmmmm. Cost?

Enter eBay, Amazon, and the other online sites to price it out. I found the one with better reviews for only about five dollars more in an auction, or a little less if I wanted to avoid the Buy It Now option and chance an auction. We chanced it, and we won. It was worth it! The conversation with my mom was probably the most important part of the process. I hadn't even planned to talk to her about it, but I felt I'd call her and test my phone, say hello, etc. Sure paid off this time, I think.

So, how far do you take it? What's your favorite way of making a decision? Do you have a favorite resource for making these kinds of choices in your purchase? Do you even care?  *lol*

Hey! Thanks for stopping by to say hi and check up on me. I can totally relate to needing to just take a break from everything extra sometimes. And I must admit I have been missed that last couple of Blogger Friend assignments. I am hoping to get back to it this week as well.

I was in the middle of posting about our Medieval Feast with pictures when you sent me your comment. So if your still interested in seeing them they are up now.

I hope you have a refreshing weekend :-)

I don't do enough research. I usually ask family and friends and trust their judgement or experience. Sometimes it works well and sometimes it backfires. The last time we bought a vehicle, we went to the dealership where our good friend works and said, "What's the least expensive thing on the lot that will carry the six of us?" We knew he wouldn't put us in something unreliable. Worked out well and we are still friends :-)

I'm a big researcher when I'm doing something new, but not so much when buying something new. I should, but price is so often the deciding factor that I can't buy what my research tells me I really want anyway.

Enjoy your break!

Saturday, March 29, 2008 - Relief

Yes, The court accepting the appeal is such a huge relief for us all. It was disappointing in homeschoolers around me that seemed liked this was all a big joke and nothing to worry about. I thought it was very serious and took much prayer! Thank you for praying for us over here in California.
By the way I will be playing catch up on blogger friend school next week as well.
I think we are all finally healthy, besides a soar throat in one of my daughters!
Have a blessed Weekend!

Does this mean Habanero is on the mend? I just hate it when my kids are sick. They seem so vulnerable. *sigh*

Sounds like your phone is way too high tech for me. In that case, I'd probably have information overload... =/

Some things I research thoroughly, some I don't. And that sounds pathetic to see typed out. =P

Hmmm, I guess I do look into things quite a bit before making a decision. It's not very scientific, it all depends. I know what you mean about being an overprotective mom. We have a history of getting sick at the sight of germs, so we tend to hold back when illness is around. And being that it has often meant more intense doctor appointments, we put ourselves in quarantine.

When we didn't go I thought I'd have to explain myself in some way. Want to hear how God moves?

I didn't go, right? Well, there was no one to open the church doors, so the group couldn't meet anyway. I saved gas by not going this time! (Yay!)

Dearest husband left for work, but returned after his car had "issues" again. He was able to come back, take my car, and work for the day. He couldn't have done that if we'd left for our group.

For those of you who wanna know: Never, never, never buy a Neon! Even if it's free, don't take it! I'm so serious!
