Welcome to My Blog!

Schooling two active boys has never been more... interesting. That's the word I'm looking for! I love my boys! God has given them the blessing of strong, active bodies and minds. We continually pray the first will remain intact, and the second will remain engaged with Him first, and then the school work. You'll meet my sweet sons, both entirely different, but both loving God to the best of their ability in the way He made them. I lovingly refer to them as my Bell Pepper Boy and my Habanero or Hambone. That should say it all! This blog is an eclectic mix. The events, conversations, and the thoughts behind it all will be in here. Every once in a while I'll try to capture something I don't want to forget. I hope you find things you enjoy. Please let me know if you do! Blessings!

Language Lesson Gone Nuts?

Posted in Boy Things
Good luck following this one! I can't promise I can do the whole situation and explanation justice, but I'll sure try. I hope it blesses you in some way...if even by a smile and a giggle.

If you've been reading long enough, you know that I have chosen to spend time in Proverbs with my boys for a while, so that we might obtain a little wisdom. I thought we could all use it, including me, so we're working our way through it in memory verses and devotional discussion and activities. (I have boys, so the activities are clearly the most important part.)  ;')

So, what were we up to? We were working through chapter two, and came across the word discretion in verse eleven. Great! What is discretion? (Yay! You've won an all-inclusive, paid trip to Webster's Island!)  *grin*

Then we got to a word that stumbled out of my mouth: circumspection. I'm not sure why it came out, and I wasn't prepared for the path this would take.

In Language, we know to try to break down words to parts we might recognize. Bell Pepper is exceedingly talented at this part of the process. I tossed out other words that may be helpful to him: circumstance, circumnavigate, circumference, circle. Eventually, he put some pieces together and came up with "things that are round; going around; things going on around you." (I love his mind! Have I told you that?) Anyway, so that brought us to the other part of the word, spection. I tossed out things that might help him again: spectator and spectacles. He came up with inspect.

Yay! We made it to something like "Looking out for the things going on around you!"  (Yeeeehaw!)

So, then I put it into context. A child with circumspection will look both ways before crossing the street, at least twice!

It all went off from there. This is where Habanero kicked it up a notch, and Bell Pepper went with him!

Suddenly, I had two boys showing me the results of lack of circumspection in my living room! (Thank goodness for carpet and fairly soft furniture?) There had to be a "death toll" equaling something of dozen cats with all nine lives gone. Oh my! I can barely remember the whole thing, but it was several minutes of insanity.

I was pretty impressed with the sound effects, I must say. Who knew they could create the following:
  • a child on a squeaky tricycle and a car
  • a child doing tricks on a bicycle and a truck
  • a child walking aimlessly and a semi-truck
  • a ball bouncing, a child chasing, and a very large car

*sigh* Those are just the few I can remember.  :'P

Hi, my name is Jen. I'm a mom of boys, and I'll never be the same!  *giggle*  Welcome to MY world!

Roflol!! So it's not just my son....

Oh! Aren't boys precious? Just be glad you homeschool because when my son would come up with such stories while still in Christian school, they would lecture me on my parenting at the end of the day. *sigh*
Isn't it wonderful how they take in the lessons and apply it to real life examples that make it a 'living' lessons?

Funny! I love it when mine go off on tangents, too. There is never a dull moment with boys, is there?

How sweet! Sounds a lot like a typical day with my three dirt-magnet boys - never an hour without something to make me laugh!
