Welcome to My Blog!

Schooling two active boys has never been more... interesting. That's the word I'm looking for! I love my boys! God has given them the blessing of strong, active bodies and minds. We continually pray the first will remain intact, and the second will remain engaged with Him first, and then the school work. You'll meet my sweet sons, both entirely different, but both loving God to the best of their ability in the way He made them. I lovingly refer to them as my Bell Pepper Boy and my Habanero or Hambone. That should say it all! This blog is an eclectic mix. The events, conversations, and the thoughts behind it all will be in here. Every once in a while I'll try to capture something I don't want to forget. I hope you find things you enjoy. Please let me know if you do! Blessings!

Nation or Avian or Rocket Ship?

Posted in Boy Things
I just had to pop this in while I had a moment. The boys are finishing up some end of day work, so I can drop in for a few. Please know I wasn't sure where to put this entry. Should it be under "Curriculum" or "School Things" or "Boy Things"? As odd as it ended, I settled on "Boy Things".

I was researching curriculum for next year. I've been looking at A Child's Geography since I've received more than one e-mail about this new book. I even downloaded a chapter to get a better glimpse. Basically, I gather it begins in Turkey. The photos in the chapter I saw were nice. The layout of the material is in keeping with some of the things we've like about other curriculum we've used.

So, I said to the "peppers", "Next year maybe we'll study about Turkey."

Habanero had been looking over my shoulder, so he gathered it was related to geography. He didn't say too much.

Bell Pepper was probably thinking about the Apologia Zoology 1 materials by Jeannie Fulbright I mentioned some time ago. He was off and running and said, "So, we'll be studying BIRDS OF PREY?!?"

"Hey! Birds of Prey were some of the ships in that space show, Enterprise!" volunteered Habanero.

*Insert mom with a very blank look on her face here.*

Hmmmm. Ummmm. Hmmmmm. No. Turkey, of that variety, would not qualify as a bird of prey to my knowledge. Perhaps Zoology 1 may be more mandatory than I thought?

Note to self: there has to be an art project lurking in Zoology 1 and Enterprise.

Make a replica Enterprise out of these turkey feathers.
No... wait... how about, "create a recipe for turkey that could be prepared in space."

I have a whole new respect for turkeys now. Thanksgiving will never be the same for me---I'll be thinking "birds of prey"

I love it!

Maybe he meant 'birds of pray' since that's what turkeys are depicted doing around Thanksgiving??!!

Or maybe there is a breed of wild attack turkeys that I've missed?

Too cute!

That's so funny! I love your kids!

I will say though that the only predatory turkey I've ever heard of hangs out in bars and uses various mating calls such as "Hellooooo beautiful!" I had a few sightings of those while in college, but used my withering stare and razor sharp (hah!) wit to shoot them down. 8)

You know, perhaps there is a side to the turkey I didn't know about. I mean, Ben Franklin was completely sold on the idea of the turkey for our national bird. Are turkeys and eagles somewhat similar somehow???
