Welcome to My Blog!

Schooling two active boys has never been more... interesting. That's the word I'm looking for! I love my boys! God has given them the blessing of strong, active bodies and minds. We continually pray the first will remain intact, and the second will remain engaged with Him first, and then the school work. You'll meet my sweet sons, both entirely different, but both loving God to the best of their ability in the way He made them. I lovingly refer to them as my Bell Pepper Boy and my Habanero or Hambone. That should say it all! This blog is an eclectic mix. The events, conversations, and the thoughts behind it all will be in here. Every once in a while I'll try to capture something I don't want to forget. I hope you find things you enjoy. Please let me know if you do! Blessings!

Kids Say the Funniest Things

Posted in Boy Things
Well, we are still working on getting into the swing of things for this year. Mostly, we've loved our history and finished, I think, what is supposed to be a whole quarter's worth of work.  (Ooops!) So, we're moving right along. I think we should probably start getting into our science work soon, since it's flying things (bugs, birds, and bats). We'll try to work on it before all the flying things are hard to find.  :'P

Anyway, the funny part of this entry needs to happen, so here goes . . . .

Habanero and I were working through some early history (Old Testament) with our Bibles. He happened to see a drawing of something on his page and started asking questions. (I give you the benefit of knowing that before I try to have you guess. I didn't have that benefit.)

Habanero: Mom, what's it called when you have those two "dough-rollers" . . . one up here and one down here . . . and there's paper in between?

Me: Ummmmm.

*Insert several repeated attempts at describing it in the same way.*

Finally, he brought his Bible over to show me the picture. I knew IMMEDIATELY what he was talking about then! Do you?  I'll let you guess.  ;')

Secondly, we were talking about corn on the cob. It apparently looks like a missile of ultimate food fight proportions, and invites sound effects. (Those with boys are not shocked by this in the least.)

One thing led to another. Suddenly, we were talking about toe-shaped missiles. Bell Pepper then had to spell out "M-I-S-S-I-L-E T-O-E" and make the ultimate Christmas connection.  *sigh*

My life is ever so interesting on most days. Really!

Our last little excerpt relates to something less funny and more awesome in nature. Habanero, as some of you may remember, has wanted to become a pastor when he grows up. Today we were discussing hearing the voice of God. (This was related to should we or shouldn't we get some button quail eggs to hatch.) I mentioned that hearing God's voice takes practice, and sometimes others can help us along the way. Think, for example, about Eli helping Samuel to recognize the voice of God.

Habanero went off to "hear" and practice "hearing" God.

Habanero: Mom! I heard God's voice! He said, "Yes. You can get quail eggs!"

*I've heard this before, as you may have read.*

Me: Mmmm. I see.

Habanero: Wait! How do I know that was God and not Satan? Hmmmm. I'll be back, Mom!

Me: Okay.

Habanero: Okay, now I know it was God. The same voice said, "Read your Bible until you're done, and then read it again." That's what pastors do, so I think this was God.

Me: Well, if you are learning to hear God's voice I want to encourage you. It will take practice. Your own voice might sneak in. The enemy's voice might sneak in. Just keep asking God to be the only voice you hear when you pray.  ;')

We're working on growing in the right ways. Please pray for me as I seek to guide them in the paths of righteousness! I'll always remember to pray for all of you, too!

Love to you all!

I always tell mine that God won't tell them anything that they need our permission for without letting us know also. He's not in the business of confusion...

Sometimes, He tells them first. Sometimes, they just wish He would tell them. LOL!

Ha ha ha! The funny story sounds like the types of conversations we have around here...

The other story is lovely. It's wonderful that your son is so dedicated to the Lord! We will pray for you.
