Welcome to My Blog!
Schooling two active boys has never been more... interesting. That's the word I'm looking for!
I love my boys! God has given them the blessing of strong, active bodies and minds. We continually pray the first will remain intact, and the second will remain engaged with Him first, and then the school work. You'll meet my sweet sons, both entirely different, but both loving God to the best of their ability in the way He made them. I lovingly refer to them as my Bell Pepper Boy and my Habanero or Hambone. That should say it all!
This blog is an eclectic mix. The events, conversations, and the thoughts behind it all will be in here.
Every once in a while I'll try to capture something I don't want to forget. I hope you find things you enjoy. Please let me know if you do!
Blessings!

Eggs-tra Special!
Posted in School Things
These are a few pictures of our Buttons from our last hatch a couple years ago. I'm still sharing the old hatches, since our hatch is rather . . . ummm . . . boring at the moment. (Think: X ... O ... X ... O ... and not quite as much fun as Tic Tac Toe.) :'P
If I remember correctly, we got six eggs to hatch that time. One did not survive as a chick, so we ended up with five healthy little buggers. We kept one and named her Ginger. Ginger was our Basil's girlfriend for awhile. Okay, enough history! Here are the pictures I have from way back then.
This is about as good as it gets for a group shot of the birds. I built this cage specifically for Buttons. A quick trip to the Depot, and I managed to score what I needed for a quick, easy habitat. (Imagine a large piece of hardware cloth in a cylinder with a quick, wire "whip stitch" along the seam. I cut a hole for a door, and I "stitched" that in, too. I used screen for the top of the cage and a large plant "saucer" for the base.) We still have the cage. ;') Like Timex, it takes a lickin' and keeps on . . . .
The white birds are impossible to sex until they either begin to lay or begin acting like a rooster. The two speckled birds here are females of different coloring. The other bird may well have been a male, but he found a home before we were entirely sure. Males usually have a "bib" that shows under their chin for several of the different colored varieties. Whites, silvers, and a few others are a waiting game.
I think this is a close up of the darker female when she was almost fully grown. The three darker birds were very close in color. Definitely a female in this pic, no matter which one it was. ;')
This is Ginger. She was the female we kept for a while. See the penny in the picture? She was nearly fully mature in this picture. Her coloring was considered "Golden Pearl."
Given the time and effort, these can be fun little pets. They can really enjoy their people. Our Basil loved to be "scritched" under his chin, on his head, and on his breast. We're hoping for similar tame birds this time, but we know it takes work. :'D
