Welcome to My Blog!

Schooling two active boys has never been more... interesting. That's the word I'm looking for! I love my boys! God has given them the blessing of strong, active bodies and minds. We continually pray the first will remain intact, and the second will remain engaged with Him first, and then the school work. You'll meet my sweet sons, both entirely different, but both loving God to the best of their ability in the way He made them. I lovingly refer to them as my Bell Pepper Boy and my Habanero or Hambone. That should say it all! This blog is an eclectic mix. The events, conversations, and the thoughts behind it all will be in here. Every once in a while I'll try to capture something I don't want to forget. I hope you find things you enjoy. Please let me know if you do! Blessings!

If We Could Only Bottle the Mental Energy . . .

Posted in Boy Things
Today was more relaxed day for me in some ways. Those who know me will think this is a major accomplishment in my home schooling arena...and it is! Hooray for relaxing!

I encouraged Bell Pepper and Habanero to work on their science together, a little more self-directed than normal. (Was this a cop out?) Anyway, they worked through their Zoology work together, Bell reading and Habanero filling in his worksheet as he heard the information. It was a beautiful thing! I sat and listened to them working in the other room. It was near blissful, I tell you!

I must have checked out for a nanosecond, though, and when I came back to reality, the conversation had somewhat drifted from the original topic of beetles, flies, and true bugs. Suddently, I overheard something of a different nature. And, well, since they are boys and I don't want to squash creativity all the time, I listened.

Habanero: Hey! Let's consider how long it would take a sloth to write 'supercalifragilisticexpialidocious'!

Me: *Whaaaa--?"*

Bell Pepper: Yeah! It would take a really, really, really long time!

Habanero:
I know! It would take the sloth three YEARS!

Me:
*giggle*

Bell Pepper:
At least that!

There are moments in my life that I just can't resist entering into their lives on a more "human" level as a mom. I don't know what came over me, but the next part of the conversation just went downhill, probably, in the eyes of a "normal" teacher.  *sigh*  Again, I just couldn't resist!

Me:
You know, the real question is how long it would take the sloth to get down to the ground, write it, and get back up!

Bell Pepper:
Yeah, Mom! They are really slow!

Me: Well, it's an animal that comes down their tree once a week to...ummm...go to the bathroom. I'm thinking that word is not going to be a quick job. What do you think?

Habanero:
Well, if it takes three days to get down and three days to get back up, he has a day to rest before he has to start thinking about pooping again.

*sigh*

It was such a nice, fun conversation in the beginning. . . .
