Welcome to My Blog!

Schooling two active boys has never been more... interesting. That's the word I'm looking for! I love my boys! God has given them the blessing of strong, active bodies and minds. We continually pray the first will remain intact, and the second will remain engaged with Him first, and then the school work. You'll meet my sweet sons, both entirely different, but both loving God to the best of their ability in the way He made them. I lovingly refer to them as my Bell Pepper Boy and my Habanero or Hambone. That should say it all! This blog is an eclectic mix. The events, conversations, and the thoughts behind it all will be in here. Every once in a while I'll try to capture something I don't want to forget. I hope you find things you enjoy. Please let me know if you do! Blessings!

Happy Mother's Day!

Posted in Celebrations!
I'm going to guess the bulk of my friends are, ummm, mothers. (Sorry, Arby, if you're reading along. Please be sure to give The Boss the appropriate Mother's Day spa treatment.) This is a very special time in this house. It's the one time of year I might be able to play the "guilt" card a little more effectively.  :'P  "You wouldn't disobey your Mother on  *dramatic pause for effect*   Mother's Day weekend, would you?" I might say. *grin*

I'll have to sort that out with God later tonight, I suppose.  ;')

Anyway, I wanted to be sure to wish you all a fabulous Mother's Day. I wanted to tell you all how much so many of you pour into me through your little corner of the Blog Universe. I wanted you to know you are wonderful friends and "blog neighbors" to me. Thanks! May your day be blessed in so many ways. May your children rise up and call you. . .AWESOME.  (I never got into the being called blessed thing, myself.)

My lovely family will be enjoying the afternoon with my in-laws when my Dashing Hero finishes serving. It should be a lot of fun. It will be a two-fer day, Mother's Day and Habanero's celebration all in one. Good food and sugar will be had by all, I imagine.  :'D

I've gotten two lovely gifts from my family. My Hero made it possible to put slate tile in our teeny, tiny entryway. I learned a new skill and have a lovely floor. He gets the praises!  *grin* He also got me a lovely, shiny gift. I'll have to see if I can do pictures. It's really, really pretty and shiny!  :'D  At least part of it is as close to eternal as we get on this planet.  ;')

I'd love to hear about your special day! I hope you have great standing ovations from your family members. I hope you hear trumpet fanfare announcing your fantastic arrival wherever you go. If not, like me, you can just imagine it all. It does wonders for your morale!  *lol*
Pssssst! Have you voted in the Say What You Mean Contest?

Habanero's Special Day!

Posted in Celebrations!
Happy birthday to
An amazing little Mighty Man in the making!
Being active is what you do BEST!
A little spice in our lives every day.
Never dull in any way!
Every moment is a puzzle to be solved.
Reading your new Bible is your preparation.
Oh, I can't wait to see what He does through you in our nation!

Yes, my baby is now officially SEVEN! How did that happen? Exactly seven years ago today I was at one of my last OB appointments arguing for another week of uninterrupted time with unnoticed contractions at seven minutes apart. True to his very nature, this boy was not going to be stopped. He was coming, ready or not. It didn't matter that we'd moved into our then new house nine days before. Carpet, paint, and unpacking wasn't going to happen on his watch!  *giggle*  He wanted to be center stage, and he was!

My lovely doctor gave me two options: go home and come back at 6 AM for induction, or walk my cranky little behind down the hall and park it in a hospital room. I, of course, chose option C. I am not a morning person. Being anywhere at 6 AM just doesn't do it for me, if I don't have to do it. So, I did something else.  ;')   (To this day, I have no idea where Habanero gets it.)  ;')

I called my Dashing Hero, and told him to take Bell Pepper to his mom's house. He was completely unprepared for that, but we didn't have a choice. While he was doing that, I opted for the 2 mile walk option in the neighborhood. (I like to think it was the hormones coursing through my veins that led me to be so foolish!) Huffing and puffing and resting a mile away from home, annoyed by the rather obvious little cramps, I wondered who would make it back to the house first. *lol*

My Dashing Hero came home to me announcing that the contractions were more noticeable. He, of course, was checking his watch. I, on the other hand, knew I had *plenty* of time! At five minutes apart, my Dashing Hero called the doctor to check in. We were ordered to go in.  (Drat! I realized we didn't have any cute clothes to put on the new kid.)

A quick trip to Wal-Mart was in order, of course. (Remember the hormones!) Not that it was on the way, but it wasn't that far out of the way. Besides, the contractions were roughly 7 or 8 minutes apart. Clearly, we still had time. I chose a quick outfit and continued through a few more contractions. Of course, Hero had to notice that they were a little closer together as we walked out the door. Nothing like 2 minute contractions to spoil a shopping trip for cute baby clothes!  :'P

We got to the hospital at 7 PM. Preregistration? What preregistration? Ugh!

I have to break in here and say I never really experienced labor with my first child. He wasn't coming out, so they went in to get him. We were trying to get this one out "the right way" this time, but it wasn't happening. My take on labor from this side of experience is that it's highly overrated. In retrospect, if I was to compare doctor skills, I'd have to compare "rescues" in time, right? Bell Pepper was out in 7 minutes. Habanero was more like 15 minutes. If I was to compare experiences, I'd say Habanero's doctors win hands down! My fantastic women doctors did a nice tummy tuck when they were done! Gotta love it!

Back to the story of Habanero. He came into the world about 11:15 PM. If his feet could have hit the ground running, I'm sure they would have. Thankfully, he was swaddled for the first couple weeks, which he thought ridiculous and unbearable.

My life has been drastically changed for the better with this little man. He's amazing. (Both boys are!) Thanks to Habanero, I now know that whatever you learn from the first child does not apply in any way to the second. I know so much about life that I never knew before. Things like "Pocket pets aren't really found in nature." I've learned "All of life is a problem to be figured out, and if I could only find out which problem he was working on. . ."   ;')

This little guy is going to have quite the life...quite the responsibility...possibly quite the ministry ahead of him. Should we be able to keep him alive and in one piece long enough, he's going to be quite the Mighty Man!

I love my spicy one!  Happy birthday, son!

The Calm Before. . .

Posted in Celebrations!
Good morning, friends. You will all relate to this moment I'm having right now. I'm just savoring it while I can. So, welcome to my entry praising God for the stillness of the morning with a little hot tea (with honey and just a tiny bit of sugar), the Bible, and my laptop.  *sigh*

Here I am at the kitchen table. The quiet morning punctuated by the occasional sigh of a sleeping dog. The birds are quietly pecking at their scratch for the morning every so often. A couple rooms away I can hear the bass-like, intermittent rumblings of my Dashing Hero's snores. The only constant sound is the soft whirring of our air purifier fan.

Ahhhh...the tea is gurgling and waiting for me to finish it...

As I contemplate a moment like this, I just have to be thankful. As you know, I recently had a moment with friends over that was complete chaos. I'm sure they didn't believe that this house ever settled down to anything close to this. It's not like this too often where "outsiders" would see it. You see, you have to get up pretty early to have a moment like this in our house.  ;')

The boys are quietly slumbering. The Dashing Hero is quietly...ummm...he's slumbering, too. These are the moments a lovely sunrise might peek through the window, if it wasn't one of those overcast mornings. Well, sunshine or no, this is the lovely day the Lord has made! I will rejoice and be glad in it! Soon they will stir. It will be a very different household in a few moments. But, I will love that part of it, too!

I pray you all have some quiet stillness in your homes to thoroughly savor soon...if you haven't already!
A morning like this deserves this kind of signature!

A Little Professional Development?

Posted in Celebrations!
Those who have been reading along for a while know that I've been looking to some solutions to our home schooling dilemmas (anger issues, history headaches, and such). Well, lovely people suggested so many terrific resources, and I've got most of them either read or purchased...or better...loaned to me.

I've been reading terrific resources on anger, learning styles, and we've purchased things to help us out next year. Want to hear how cool God is?

He provided The Heart of Anger for me to read on loan. Then He provided the book for my own personal library. He provided a brand new copy of The Way They Learn at a public library sale. Yesterday He provided Mystery of History very reasonably at Vegsource.com (my favorite book selling source).

He is obviously not done with me yet because I just received notice that I WON a book in a HSB contest! (Say whaaaaaat?) Didn't I say I never win, but my friends often do? I guess God moved heaven and earth and some kind of random selector thingy so that I would have a resource that I probably need more desperately than ever! We, my friends, are apparently going to have a home school that WORKS...by His hand!!!!  *Insert stunned look followed by happy dance here!*  Here is where I won the book.

He's even moved on our behalf in the curriculum areas I hadn't necessarily thought to lay before His feet. (Sorry about that, Father!)  He provided brand new penmanship and creative writing books for Bell Pepper for next year. He provided a practically new math workbook for the first half of Habanero's year next year. I could go on and on! My boys' favorite "God sent" book was one that is about the human body. The pages are like a board book, but there is a plastic model that shows the "innards" as you turn the pages and learn about that part of the body! (How cool is THAT? I might have paid more attention if they'd had books like that when I was in school!)

All this is to say that our very loving, gracious, attentive God has been richly blessing us...wretches that we can be at times. Praise Him!  *Insert girlie crying here.*

Are there things yet to be done? Absolutely! I'm working on following His lead in everything. I have decided that I need to lay our curriculum and needs at His feet and wait for Him to move. I'm waiting on the Lord!

As a little side note, I thought I would share that we are working on prayer right now in our Bible time. We were talking about "big asks" with the boys. We have need of some materials for repairs and for general living. You might see the lists as odd, but we thought we'd lay all of our deepest needs down for God to resolve. As He leads and answers, I'll let you know how it goes.  ;')

Thanks for reading along and celebrating with me. I appreciate it!
