Welcome to My Blog!

Schooling two active boys has never been more... interesting. That's the word I'm looking for! I love my boys! God has given them the blessing of strong, active bodies and minds. We continually pray the first will remain intact, and the second will remain engaged with Him first, and then the school work. You'll meet my sweet sons, both entirely different, but both loving God to the best of their ability in the way He made them. I lovingly refer to them as my Bell Pepper Boy and my Habanero or Hambone. That should say it all! This blog is an eclectic mix. The events, conversations, and the thoughts behind it all will be in here. Every once in a while I'll try to capture something I don't want to forget. I hope you find things you enjoy. Please let me know if you do! Blessings!

Everyone's a Critic?

Posted in Mom Things
Today has been a lazy afternoon. I've thoroughly enjoyed it, and I was thinking I needed to get back to the blog sometime soon. So, here I am, friends! (Aren't you glad to see me?)   ;')

Today is a sort of Show and Tell from me. I've only done this a few times, hoping you'd enjoy something a little "different" from my corner of the Blog Universe. So, here goes. . . .

My little show and tell piece comes from my Bible study for my small group. We are studying Isaiah, and I had spent some time in the sixth chapter. As I considered how this passage applied to me, I felt the need to draw in my sketchbook journal. Here is the (probably unfinished) work:

Now, this may make a bit of sense to you in light of the passage, and it may not. To my Habanero, it did not. He wanted to know why I would draw a picture of a flaming marshmallow.

*sigh*

Ah, well, such is my life with my boys. He wasn't really being critical, just making an observation, right?

FYI...there were alterations made to the artwork in response to the comments. Who knows if it looks anything more like a coal. Please remember that I am just LEARNING how to draw!

A Thinkin' Moment

Posted in Mom Things
My husband and I were taking the quick jaunt to our new little gym where we sweat fairly regularly these days. As we were on our way, we passed a place that I've always passed.

We drive right in front of a neat and tidy brick building. There is a circle drive that passes beneath a large, sheltering roof. There are quaint little light fixtures at the entrance and hanging over the circle drive. The lights in the parking lot fit the chosen "era" for the whole setting. Often a few people are standing outside, quietly talking or having a smoke. I always notice the people.

Some days the lot is completely bare. Some days the lot is full to capacity. Often there are just a few cars clustered, leaving the rest of the lot quiet and empty. I'm most sad when there are only a very few cars. It tends to speak volumes.

Do you know the place? Can you guess?

I've driven past this little funeral home as long as I've lived in the area. Oddly enough, I haven't been inside very often in all these years. Driving past this little building always elicits a response in my heart. It just does.  When you drive past this little parking lot, you know why people are there. It's not like the cars at the grocery store, the mall, or the gas station.

I always notice the people standing just outside the doors under the roof. And, I always notice the cars in the parking lot. What volumes are contained in both!

This is, for me, just a moment to think, I suppose. Order my days, Lord, since the number of them is unknown to me. Let me consider these things in light of eternity: my days and the days of those around me.

Monday's Meandering Entry

Posted in Mom Things
It's Monday. It's not just any Monday. This is the Monday that follows one of our busiest weekends ever in recorded history (of this month).  *grin*  As much as everything that was packed into this weekend was good and somewhat necessary, it was a bit much.

A sweet friend of mine keeps reminding me of a sweet word I probably need to look up in the dictionary: simplify. I look at some parts of my life, and I'm pretty convinced it doesn't "ooze" simplicity. No, I'm not talking about going to homesteading-type mindset. That's probably not genuinely me. Those who know me will laugh at the thought of me roughing it for any real length of time. What? No computer? No microwave? *gasp* No BLOW DRYER or CURLING IRON? Yeah, this may be one of the reasons I have not been called into certain areas of missions.  *sigh*  Thank you for the Savior and friends who still love me anyway.

We're trying to get into a groove. We really are. Poor Bell Pepper is feeling lousy today, though. It's just a cold, but I'm seriously considering sending him to bed. Habanero, on the other hand, is healthy and strong and highly distracted today.  Ah, well. I'm as tired as they are, and I figure it's early in the year. We've tackled the Ice Age and Dinosaurs today in history. Projects to do. Time line to work on. We'll get to it, right?

I had a wonderful time percolating on Nehemiah 1 today. (See my other blog, Walking in the Word, for more on that.) The study time was a nice reminder on many levels. In addition to a prayer focus, I realized if I chose to fast, I'd have to find the most significant and meaningful thing to remove from my life. Oh dear, I was afraid it wouldn't be food. *sigh*  I'm pretty sure "hard core fasting" for me would involve a computer shut down.  :'O  Hmmmm.

Thank you to all of you who extended your sympathies in our loss of sweet Basil-bird. We miss him. Habanero is doing his best to rebound in all of this. We are learning that, with a little hard work, our other very flighty bird can be reasonably handle-able. (Though my bathroom needs to be checked for "remnants" of said bird and boy.) Sterling is very lonely, but our nearest button quail breeder appears to be 90 miles away.  *sigh*  We shall pray about it.

Well, that's all I have to say for a Monday.

If You Give a Mom a Garden. . .

Posted in Mom Things
If you give a mom a garden . . .

She'll want some compost to go in it. And, once she's worked that in to the soil, she'll see it needs more amendment.

Off to the store she'll go, hoping to get a good price on topsoil and peat, too.

While she's at the store, the mom will notice the aisle of shiny tools: shovels and hoes and bulb planters and trowels. She'll have to test each one for weight and durability in her very own hands. After she sees they are not as nice as the heavy tools she has at home, she'll remember she was in the store for the garden she's making.

She'll walk toward the topsoil and peat, and the aisle of fertilizers will be right in front of her. The mom will have to look at the various kinds of fertilizer and think about what she'll need. Knowing there are no plants in the garden yet, she has no need of the fertilizers. But, that reminds her that there are no plants in the garden, so the mom will have to look at those, too!

After the mom experiences *all* of the lovely plants, she remembers she came only for soil amendments. She gets them and pays for them.

When the mom returns to the garden, turns in the amendments, and steps back to look at her job, she is happy. This reminds her that a job well done is really a joy, but also a lot of work.

The mom soon realizes she is thirsty, so she goes in to enjoy the air conditioning and a cup of tea. The tea reminds her she is hungry, so the mom also eats a cookie. The cookie crumbs remind her the kitchen table is dirty, so she finds the spray and paper towels and cleans the table.

Seeing the clean table reminds her there is dirt on the floor, too. So, the mom gets the broom and dust pan and sweeps the dirt from the floor. She dumps the dirt into the garbage can under the sink, which reminds her she was working in dirt earlier in the day in her new garden.

The mom goes back out to the garden, sees there are no flowers, and ponders the situation. Seeing there are flowers in other parts of the yard, the mom decides to move them to the new garden.

Three hours later . . .

The mom steps back from her nicely planted garden, rubs her sore back, looks at the huge pile of extra Brown-Eyed Susans, and thinks, "I really need to make another garden over there with the extra ones."

*sigh*

And, after she has cut the new garden in to the barely grassy area in another part of the yard, she decides she needs some compost to go in it.

Have a great day! This is a bit of a dramatized version of my day. I thought you'd get a kick out of it.
