NEA Targets Homeschoolers

Never content to leave legislating to the legislators, the NEA has passed a resolution at their 2006 Convention.
At the end of the convention the delegates sang The Battle Hymn of the Republic, something they did first in 1966, only they changed the wording slightly this time,

B-73. Home SchoolingThe NEA's resolution, while not legally binding, creates false information which makes homeschooling appear more regulated and difficult in many states. This is most likely what teachers will tell parents if they choose to disenroll their children. I've already heard this lie being told many times to parents here in Michigan. Each state has its own requirements. Michgian homeschoolers do not have to take assessments.

Amend by addition on page 32, line 22, "When home schooling occurs, students enrolled must meet all state curricular requirements, including the taking and passing of assessments to ensure adequate academic progress."

With NEA Executive Committee Members Carolyn Crowder and Michael Marks leading the RA, the delegates warmly raised their voices and embraced additional lyrics written by Crowder: "Glory, glory, Hallelujah! We must keep marching on!"Truth doesn't seem to matter much to these people at all.
