The New "Miranda" Ruling
Nov. 7, 2005 at 8:30 AM
Homeschooling
Apparently, the court ruled that once a parent has enrolled their children in the government schools, the parents only have one right. The right to remain silent.
Therefore, I propose that all parents be informed of their rights before they enroll their child in school. Similar to when an arrest is made and they are read their "Miranda" rights. It could go something like this,
Parents or legal guardian; As you enroll your child in our government system of state indoctrination we are required to inform you of your rights...
You have the right to remain silent. Do you understand?
Everything you say and do will be ignored anyway. So don't waste your breath. Do you understand?
You have the right to an attorney. But don't waste your money either. Most judges are on our side. They know who re-elects them. Long live the NEA! Do you understand?
You have no right to due process or privacy. Just bake cookies (no nuts please!) and attend the PTO meetings and we'll get along just fine. Do you understand?
You have no right to object to any material we present to your child. Everything we teach is pursuant to legitimate educational as well as health and welfare interests of the state. Do you understand?
We will use the full power of the court to establish that the interests of the state are more important than your interest as a parent. All at tax payer expense. (That means you.) Do you understand?
We realize that it may seem awkward to give up control of your child's education. But think about how many more hours in the day you will now be free to pursue your own interests. More importantly, the state is now free teach your child exactly what he needs to do to be a good worker in the global economy. Congratulations! You have just been liberated from your primary obligation as a parent. Go in peace.

Well then obviously it is Biblically wrong to put children in public school...we are responsible for the authority and education of our children, and if by placing them in the system (equals) = no parental rights/authority...then we are in fact, dead beat parents!

Wow!! If they really do start telling parents this before enrolling their child in PS then the attendance will drop drastically!! We know this will not happen or will it??
I sure hope it does. I have told parents that send their children to PS after they asked me why I homeschool and what is the big deal. I told them once you enroll your child in PS you lost your parential rights. They do not believe me when I say that!!

The teaching and training to another, we'd better be informed. We do, in a sense, "give up" our rights to some degree when we delegate. Seeing as how we ARE the gov't (for the people by the people) we should have a say ... because under our gov't we delegate it to ... ourselves ... sort of. Except for "majority rules."
So when we sign over our children to the government school, we have to either accept their rulings, or change it if we can, or find an alternative. My choice is to not delegate it at all!
I think that most parents do not think much about this whole process, and just do status quo. And then when they don't like what's happening, they often don't realize there are options. Or they don't like the options (giving up a salary, or other issues ... "could never do that!" "I can't stand my kids!" "Thankfully, school starts next week and I'll get them out of my hair!" "I need my space." "I'm not good at math" "I'm so disorganized!" and on and on and on).
It's so sad. In the end, I hope this causes a huge exodus from the gov't school

Karen,
Thanks for sharing this. So many parents don't realize this. The sad thing is that some parents don't even care, as long as they don't have to 'deal' with their kids. That is what really saddens me.

The sad thing is, this is not just satirical. A TX judge commented in a 1996 case, "Parents give up their rights when they drop the children off at public school." I believe this was in response to the school stripping a child looking for evidence of abuse or something, but that is a scary precedent...right there in black and white. I don't think it lead to any mass exodus, either.

Spunky,
You are so good at blogging! Just wanted to add that.
I was just discussing this on a mom board I belong to.
This is so pathetic!
We were talking about how the public school system is denying parents a voice in the way THEIR children (our children) are taught "sex ed".
Excuse me? WE DO NOT have a say?! It is horrible.
I fear for the children in these public schools. I pray that they come across a good soul to guide them in the right direction.
It is so sickening.
Thank God for people like you in the world.
I love your blog!

Karen, this is rare, I know, but I am speechless. Thank you for sharing news. I love coming here, because I don't often make time to look at what is going on across the country. <>< Leslie

...however, they don't want you to bake cookies anymore...they don't trust you to do that either...now they want store bought only.
Great post.
