Selling naming rights

USA Today has an article Plymouth Canton school district selling naming rights to their school in an effort to have more money in a tight budget year.

Welcome to the Plymouth-Canton Elementary School, presented by Comerica.

That could be the reality in the Plymouth-Canton, Mich., school district, where administrators say their budget is so tight they had to approve the selling of naming rights to their new elementary school, existing schools, athletic field and even events.

You may be tempted to think that this is a poor school district without alot of extra funds.  However, this happens to my homes school district.  And I can say that the districts problem is not underfunding but overspending.  They just built a third high school that is more like a luxury hotel than a school building.  So if they sell naming rights to the high school it should be "The Ritz" High School.

Some may think commercialism has gone to far when we start naming schools after "greedy" corporations.    But why stop with the schools.  I think we should take it a step further.  In an effort to pay for all government services let's offer up sign rights to all departments and buildings.  Here's a few of my suggestions.

Starbuck's Captial Building.   We spend alot of money just to sit around and drink coffee.

Little Ceasar's Supreme Court.

The Mr. Clean White House (This could change every four years depending on who's in office.)

Pampers State Penitentiary.

The Speedy Road Commission (complete with logo's on the orange barrels and construction crew!)

Caterpillar Snow Removal Department (For those in the great white north you know exactly what  I mean!)

The Fed Ex Postal Service (oh wait, they compete with the goverment.  Can't have that!)

The Intel FBI building

So in an effort to lower taxes and help encourage commerce in our great land I encourage you to petition your government officials today!
