Rich Dad Poor Dad

Owning your own business, entrepreneurship, financial independence, real estate investing, and timing the market have become hot topics among homeschoolers. A lot of this has been fueled by the popular book Rich Dad Poor Dad and its author Robert Kiyosaki. My financial planner (aka my husband) has started a series taking a look at this book and the ideas Mr. Kiyosaki presents in light of biblical truths. Steve Braun writes,
It's time to be controversial and stick my neck out.Steve examines whether Christians should be buying into Kiyosaki's worldview and promoting his materials. The series has three parts and will be posted throughout the week.
What you are about to read flies in the face of the glowing reviews and fawning attention given to the book Rich Dad Poor Dad and its author Robert Kiyosaki.
It's time someone in the Christian community declared, "The Emperor Has No Clothes!"

Thanks for praying... I've added you to the prayer list.
“Pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your children.” Lamentations 2:19 (NIV)
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 (NKJV)

I read this a while ago--last fall, and will admit to 'jumping on the bandwagon' for a few days. I'll be reading the series...very interesting.

When I saw the book recommended last year I wasn't sure about it and so I didn't persue it. I'm glad that there are people willing to stick their necks out and go against the flow. I will be reading your thoughts with interest.

Your husband is right on target. My husband and I are not rich in worldly terms, but we are far from poor. And what we have we don't even deserve. But we are thankful. It saddens us to know that worldly and ungrounded Christians can be so easily led astray. To even put a "rich dad" and "poor dad" in opposite corners of the ring isn't even fair for either one because their bottom line doesn't show their heart. I grew up "having it all" and not wanting any of it. My husband grew up with nothing and never knew it. I think he sometimes was the one that really had it all.

I keep forgetting to mention that I did read your ART of homeschooling about a week or two ago. It was perfectly fitting and I'm glad you suggested it.
Reading your ART of Homeschooling reminded me of how there is one God and His voice speaks to each of us at different times and in different ways, but His message is the same - because He is the same. These are principles or laws that He has established and if we just take the time to acknowledge Him, think of how much foolishness we could avoid. God bless you as you set a good standard for us moms.
I will definitely make time to read your husband's Rich Dad Poor Dad series. Ironically, this year I was all set to order several of Mr. Kiyosaki's resources, but the business I was ordering from "went out of business." I'm glad I'll have a chance to hear different views on the philosophy of Mr. Kiyosaki, before considering his materials again.
Sorry this comment is so long, but I also wanted to thank you for providing information for Bloglines. I'm in the process of setting it up now, and I'm excited about the prospect of SAVING time! It's just what I need.

I just wanted to let you know that Emily's Dad, Scott, left a comment that I've posted on my blog (as well as a prayer request for his wife). Crystal (Emily's Mom) also added a post to her blog tonight as well.
Thanks for keeping them in prayer,
Amy
