Searching for experienced advice
We have been home schooling since my oldest son started school. Now my youngest(of three) is in K5. I am feeling a little overwhelmed with school, my housework, my part time work at church, being a wife and maintaining my sanity!
So...I am very aware that I need a more structured schedule. This excites me and scares me to death at the same time. I mean what if I fail with a strict schedule? BUT...what if it is the best year ever? I have been studying different models and examples but I wanted to turn to some REAL people and hear what works in your daily schedules.
So, if you read this and have some really good experiences please share!
Also, I would like to know what is your favorite math curriculum. And if there are any Rod and Staff users I would like to hear from you too!

Hi Stacy!
Thanks so much for your comment at my site. I'm sorry to hear that your family has also been touched by cancer. It's an awful thing. If you ever want to share, I'll listen.
Regarding following a schedule, I would say having a balance works best for us. We tried following a real stringent schedule at one time: the kids actually appreciated it, but it was difficult for me to keep up with. And, of course, having no schedule doesn't work, either. We've found our best place is right between the two. It's so great to have a framework for your day, but if you don't get that framework all filled in each day, that's okay, too.
I would write out a schedule (kids LOVE knowing when they should be doing something, they really do), but keep things light, especially while they're so young. I wish I'd taken that approach when my older three were small. It'll be more fun for all of you (and less stress for mom!). What I've discovered in our nine years of homeschooling is that the results are pretty much the same whether we're heavily scheduled or going with the flow: the kids learn anyway, often above their grade levels! That has always amazed me.
I'm glad to meet you! I've enjoyed reading your blogs tonight. We seem quite a bit alike -- I could've written them! :-)
Glad to hear you like Starbuck's, too. I'm a nut for them. I'm so excited because they're putting in another drive-through Starbuck's nearby -- that'll be three of those within 15 minutes of me! LOL.

I think the best "schedule" is not a strict one although I know many women have enjoyed using MOTH (managers of the home) with great success. I think a basic routine or rhythm is best....that no matter if you start your day at 7am or 10 am that it follows a basic rhythm...eating, chores, some tabletime, lunch, outside, productive free time, dinner, family time, baths, bed! And let the Lord lead you throughout that time allowing everyone space to breathe. In my opinion, strict schedules can lead to quick burnout that leads to guilt that leads to everyone feeling yucky! :) Enjoy the journey with loose structure! :) Just my 2 cents :)
