This past Sunday when we got home from church, my 5 year old daughter was so excited about her class at church. I asked her what she liked so much and she replied "Mrs. Penny told my favorite story", so I said "and which story was that?", she replied "Madshack, Mitchago, and that other guy". Then she said "you know Mama, those guys who didn't get burned in the fire". After retreating to the back of the house for a good laugh, I really began to think about what she had said. She had truly enjoyed learning a bible story, not only did she listen and learn, that bible story was now her "favorite". What did she know? She knew these three men were thrown into a very hot fire and were protected by God. Did she have all the names and details correct? Nope. Not even close! But here little heart was still changed by what she heard. She knows that God will protect his own in all circumstances. She saw that story as absolutely amazing and that included an absolutely amazing God. Several other thoughts came into my mind that day. That is how God wants us to feel about him and all the stories of his might and his people that he gave us. He wants us amazed, astounded, in-awed, by our God! Think about the verse in Luke chapter 18 where it says: "I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom like a little child will never enter it" So think about it...what is your favorite bible story? Do you have all the details right? Does it matter? Follow the example of a child and don't get caught up in trying to impress someone with all of you great attained knowledge. Take what you do know, and tell someone your favorite bible story and why! Just maybe a life will be changed by your simple adoration for God. "How great is the love the Father has lavished
on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" 1 John 3:1 |

We have been home schooling since my oldest son started school. Now my youngest(of three) is in K5. I am feeling a little overwhelmed with school, my housework, my part time work at church, being a wife and maintaining my sanity! So...I am very aware that I need a more structured schedule. This excites me and scares me to death at the same time. I mean what if I fail with a strict schedule? BUT...what if it is the best year ever? I have been studying different models and examples but I wanted to turn to some REAL people and hear what works in your daily schedules. So, if you read this and have some really good experiences please share! Also, I would like to know what is your favorite math curriculum. And if there are any Rod and Staff users I would like to hear from you too! |

What is the name of your homeschool? Dragonfly Academy How did you come up with that name? When we moved into our house we were always surrounded by dragonflys! Look to the left of your computer monitor. What is there? My fireplace. Where do you keep you unmatched socks? In a torn up laundry basket in my laundry room. What habit are you trying to break? CLUTTER!! What were you doing just before you got online? Watching MONK! |

Some excitement, some PANIC! Are we ready? This year we have 5th grade, 2nd grade, and K5!
This time of year I start getting excited about the next year and at the same time I have a feeling of panic. What still needs to be done to make this year the best year yet? What will make this year better than last year? Do I still really like my curriculum? Can I still do this now that all three are involved and the work is getting more difficult? Can I do this and go to school myself?
All of these questions rush through my head and I feel my breathing slow and speed up AT THE SAME TIME!!! My head feels light and I just want to start running!! Then I remember I no longer am a runner!
However, I am a Mom that has been called by God to educate my children at home! That same God that called me to do this will equip me for the job. So when you ask the question...are we ready? Just breathe...and know God IS ready, we just need to be obiedient and get the job done. |

One of those precious things about homeshcooling is the ability to close our doors and pull the curtains tight. Now I am not saying we do this physically but sometimes I just feel the need to feel that way. When hurts and disappointments come the thing that helps me deal with them is to just take some time and shut the doors. I am sure that there are those who would say this is not the best way to deal. BUT...if me and my children can at least know we are there for each other 100%, it seems to take away some of the pain.
My kids are facing some disappointing times they are still unaware of, and I just want to pull them in and shut the door. I want them to still feel the magic of childhood and ease them into the pain of reality.
Am I feeling blue today? Do I sound down? .......Yeah I am. But after some time behind my closed doors, I will be ok! |

My Top 10 Reasons I Love Home School
10. We can travel with Daddy when he has to travel with work.
9. We can go to school in our PJ's when it is cold.
8. We can schedule a day off on birthdays! (mainly mine
7. A trip to the grocery store can easily become a field trip.
6. Meal time discussions are usually about the beginning of WWII, favorite presidents, or the current books being read.
5. New math problems are not passed by until conquered.
4. I hear the first time my children read a book.
3. We pray together.
2. Their education goes beyond the surface.
1. A vacation to Washington DC is more exciting than a trip to Disney World.
This is just a fun way of saying how much I love the adventure of home schooling my children. Yes, many days I feel so inadequate, but my children ARE learning and I mean really learning. There is application of skills learned. There is plenty of time spent on academics while not robbing them of being carefree children.
I gained a lot in public school, and I missed even more. My hope is that my children will be educated enough to be anything that they want to be, and have the best memories of being a child.

My hope is to be able to share what we experience in our daily adventures in home schooling. We are currently in the 4th, 1st, and K4 grades. We have been home schooling for 5 years. We are eccletic in our choice of curriculum and make changes and adaptations every year. We have been part of a very bad co-op experience and a very good co-op experience. We love field trips, especially visiting battlefields and other historic sites and having some on site learning experiences. We look foward to sharing experiences with you! |
