Oct. 27, 2006 - What could be next?
I love funny homeschool stories. I have always claimed I want to live a quiet uneventful life, but that never seems to happen. Adventure finds me, even when I try to hide from it. Case in point, Our read aloud book for the week was Old Yeller. We calmy got through the sad ending and enjoyed the book, even let the kids watch the movie. Well that Saturday, while Dad was at church for a men's meeting, and I was cooking our 30 meals for the month, I hear this yell Oh mom there is a skunk in the yard. I put the meal on simmer and go to take look. Sure enough digging in the front flower bed was a skunk, then I realized it was the middle of the afternoon and skunks are night animals. Then the skunk went around back and starting acting weird and attacking dry wall near the trash cans. I frantically call my husband and grab the gun from the closet. My husband informs me the bullets are in the shed(next to the trash cans, next to the skunk). My husband begins the frantic ride home and I am trying to work up enough nerve to go to the shed and get the needed bullets. My husband gets home and takes over this project. I know some of one is thinking call animal control, we live very far away from this things. Well the skunk then starts to attack our daughters rabbit in its hutch and we now have to take action. I am sure you now know the ending. Of course all the kids come out to look at the skunk up close and now know exactly how rabbies can affect an animal. Of course my meal burned on the stove but it did help to cover up the skunk smell outside.
Then the next week we are reading about Louis Braille. About half way through the week, my eyes become very painful and I can't see very well. I go to the Dr. and it turns out I have hives on the inside of my eye lids scratching my eyes everytime I blink.
Well I better go check the booklist for this weeks read-a-loud, and pray for the adventure to follow.
PS By the way proper disposal of skunk is to bury it and pour bleach on it.

My goodness gracious!! You have a life of adventure, don't you? Old Yeller is my eight year old's favorite book. It's a perfect read aloud : )
Your hives sound terrible! How uncomfortable that must be!
Hope you have a great weekend!
