Jul. 10, 2008 Gardening Tools
This morning my Dad and I went to the starship where all the stores are. Then we went to the place where they sell garden tools. First we started looking for a plow. My Dad found one that would fit our garden's purpose. It has two blue lights on each side of it in case you're plowing at night, and has six blades on the wheels. We need a plowing droid to run behind this particular plow because it would drag a person behind it. My Dad and I went to a certain section of the gardening store and found the plowing droids. Then I said, "Dad, Dad! I found the one I think we need!"
Dad said, "No, George, that's a chainsaw - you're looking in the wrong aisle. Look here, this is the plowing droid we're looking for."
The droid had two treads on either side. The body stuck straight up (like a person) and its arms were on either side with pinchers on the ends. The head had antennae on the back of it on either side, and a screen on the front with wavy lines on it when it talked. Two big "eyes" glowed yellow above the screen. When this droid sees soil it looks like the soil is glowing to its robot brain. We bought the plow and the droid and took them home. |

My Dad and I went out to the yard. He said we were going to have a garden.
I said, "How are we going to know if the soil is good for our plants?"
"I'm going to check it with this scanner," Dad said.
"Cool!"
Dad checked it with the scanner and then he said, "This will be a good spot."
The baby plants came from greenhouses on the starship. My Dad and I went to our storage compartment and got some plants. There were twenty of them - I guess my Dad likes the number 20 or something. :) They had forcefields around them to protect them from other things in storage and to keep them in the right temperature and the right amount of light. Dad took them out and checked the forcefields. Tomorrow we're going to get a plow and put the plants in the ground. We're growing many kinds of vegetables and such for food. |

Jul. 8, 2008 Whiskers' Bed
| Dad and I decided to go to the new library. We went there and it was HUMONGOUS! There was every kind of book you could dream of! All the books that were on the starship were in there (like every single book that was brought from Earth). I checked out about ten to read to Whiskers. :) I don't know how many Dad checked out - I think twenty or something. He was interested in books about building, tools, and how things work. Once we got home I decided to read to Whiskers, but I couldn't find her. She wasn't on my bed where I left her. Then I looked in one of my empty drawers I wasn't using - she was in there! I picked her up and read a few books to her on my bed. Then I decided I could make a little sleeping spot for Whiskers in that extra drawer. So I folded up a sheet and put it in there and got a pillow, and then I got one of my old stuffed animals and put it in there. |

Before we knew it a town was starting to be built around us. We voted on a town name - even pets could vote using our mind-reading helmets - and it ended up being named Berryville. Everyone was really interested in the berry bushes around us because we didn't have any on the starship.
I trained Whiskers to be able to play chess with me when I got a little bored one day. Okay, I guess I was really bored. I've decided to go play chess now - I wonder if Whiskers will beat me like she did last time. After that we might play Go Fish - she likes Go Fish. |

| Cat Whiskers is my cat. She is a girl cat and likes playing with yarn and string. She doesn't like scratching people. She usually eats wet cat food that we make. Then there is Frank of course. Frank likes chasing any cat in the house. He eats dog food and he makes a lot of mistakes thinking other people's food is his. He also chases mice because he thinks they're kittens! Sometimes he accidentally chews on pillows - he makes a lot of mistakes - but he's still a good dog. We recently found a boy cat we named Mark - he was one of the strays on the starship and ended up with us in the confusion of the move to the new planet. He does not like wet cat food - he's really big, but he's still a kitten. When Frank tries to chase him he fights back. |

Once our house was built we began moving things in. I got the stuffed animals and other things from my tent, and then I put them next to the doorway of my room because they were moving in furniture and I didn't want to get in the way.
After they finished moving things in my room I had my bunkbed with a couch on the bottom - it was all blue, including the mattress, pillows, and blankets - so there was a lot of blue in my room. Then there was my hologram with my games, and a basket with a pillow and blanket inside for Cat Whiskers. The carpet was blue and the walls were blue with clouds on them - I had never seen clouds before this planet (though I had heard about them) and I wanted them in my room. I had a blue spinny chair and a desk made from an oak tree - my desk had two drawers on top and one big drawer on the bottom. My great-grandma bought it on Earth for my grandma and eventually it was passed down to me. |

Jun. 18, 2008 Camping and Family
I had to put up a tent because it was going to take a few days for the house to be built. I had some pretty cool things in my tent - I had a portable microwave and I also had a sleeping bag with a miniature mattress. There were miniature drawers for storing things in and I had a cool portable carpet that I could put in my tent along with a miniature hologram and a miniature game system with controllers. I ran the games on my hologram.
Meanwhile, as our friend enjoys his new world, we're going to update on some of the characters in his life.
First there is his cat - Cat Whiskers, that they call Whiskers for short - she's about 15 years old in cat years.
Then there is his mom, Sara who is 28 years old, and his dad, Ben who is 32.
They have a dog named Frank who is 2 in people years (in earth time), and George also has a twelve year old brother named, Jim. There are more people in his family but these are the ones who live with him. George was still four years old when they landed in the new world. |

Jun. 17, 2008 The New Planet
| Finally they found out that it was safe for humans to breathe, and we began sending down pods. I finished packing my things, but then I had to grab a few other things and then my family and I rushed to the last pod. We all climbed into the pod and went to our room there in relief. I fell asleep on the way there so they unfolded the couch into a bed. Finally I heard a big, "Bump!" and I woke up. I looked outside and it looked beautiful! Not like any kind of starship I had ever seen. I wanted to go out sooner, but we had to wait our turn. I looked out the window and it was beautiful - there were trees everywhere, flowers blooming - of course I'd never seen trees or flowers before, only in the greenhouse on the starship that was used for cleaning the air on board. We went outside the pod and began building our "house". |

| I was born on the starship in 2100. It was the only place I knew and it took a very long time to understand that there was a world before it and another one we were going to find someday. It seemed like it would be forever before we found that world. When I was four Earth-years old (we still measured time by Earth days and years on the starship) it was announced that a suitable planet had been found and probes would be sent to learn more about it. I was jumping for joy when I returned to my room and began packing my things. |

Jun. 9, 2008 History Update
| Let's update our earlier history. In 2020 the first fully artificial intelligence robot was invented. In 2030 the first functional teleporter was invented. In 2050 the first light-speed starship was created, and in 2060 the first plasma gun was invented. Then in 2070 mankind realized the entire earth was polluted with poisonous gases and humans were one of the few remaining species. So they built a giant ship that would take them away to a new planet. Every living thing that was left on earth was gathered up and put in the starship. Then the starship left to find a new planet, and they made sure to bring along books of history so they would know not to pollute their new home. |
