While I love the changes in our annual seasons, I love even more the shifting hues and varying seasons of familial life: the mellowing of personality flaws, the blossoming of godly character, the warmth of deepening love. I find great joy in watching our family unit, through the strength of Christ, mature together. For now at least, God has not seen fit to bless us with more wee ones, so we delight in the blessing of a grown daughter and her husband, and in three sons who have become young men...and this season, like the ones before, is lovely.
What are some things I cherish about this season of life?
Steve is still my best friend
Our home is a haven of peace
We don’t have to spank anyone anymore
The boys do much of the yard work
Our children are old enough to engage in great theological talks
The boys have learned to work hard
My daughter has become my dear friend
Steve and I can take a date without a babysitter
I learn more academically from our children than I teach them
Our children bless us with thoughtful acts of service
Everyone in the house knows how to cook and do laundry
We have more time to serve others
I love Steve more with each passing day |
