Oct. 8, 2007 - Our weekend

This past weekend I was hit by some sort of virus. I went to bed Friday evening around 10pm and didn't get back up for more than a few minutes at a time until Sunday morning! I can't remember ever feeling like that and I'm glad to be better! Les is now sneezing and sniffling and we're hoping that he gets better soon because he has a short business trip this week and really needs to be there. I wish I would have started taking Echinacea like he did right away. Studies recently have shown that it shortens an illness and we've noticed that it has too.

Les has finally agreed to get rid of our cat (Siamese) he's very attached to her but I have no affection for her since she bit a friend's child in the head! (Sorry again Sarah!) She has since done that to two of our other children except Alexis who never gets in the cat's face. But most cats WILL at least move out of the way when they've had enough, not our kitty. She will just sit there and give a warning and if the child doesn't pick up on that warning she will bite them (in the face even). So we need to find her a home where there are no children. We've been trying to get her spayed so that she can go to a friends house where they have several acres and she would be an outdoor cat but it's going to get cold soon and it will be a big change for her. The only problem is that the spaying is expensive (for a cat that has been so awful with our kids) and the places that will do it for $45 are booked until December. I am hoping that we can find someone who can keep her indoors or get her spayed. She's a beautiful cat! And will make a great pet for someone who has no little kids around her all the time.

I am also now done with the two books by the Maxwell's. I am greatly encouraged and wish for Les to read the "Keeping Your Children's Hearts" I think it will encourage him as well. It's been by far (in my opinion) the best parenting book I've read yet ASIDE from the Bible. They use the Bible for each principle and idea they give and is very thought provoking. I've also been able to read God's WORD daily which is MOST important. The children are enjoying our time in the WORD as well. We also listen to the New Testament on tape which I'm sure I've shared and they will ask for it and ask questions after listening to the tape. Praise the Lord!

Pam, sorry to hear about your illness. Hope you are feeling MUCH better today.

I like your new name for your homeschool ;^)

After reading and meditating on keeping our children's hearts do you feel that there is much risk in giving their hearts away when another adult is of temporary help to them?

I had a recent experience where a brother felt that sitting in a service with my boys was putting them at risk for taking their hearts away from their father.

It has got me really thinking.

I personally thought it an extreme thought in light of it being just a one time thing but I don't fault the brother at all for voicing his view and declining to do so. I didn't expect him to do so I just asked.
I also realized that this brother did not know me well at all and didn't know that I normally would not leave my children in the care of others. He may have been concerned that I made a habit of 'offing my children on other people.'

I may have to see about reading that book.

Thanks for sharing with us, Jacinda

Hello. I just wanted to say I am enjoying the book as well. I may have to buy it for my own personal use. Would you consider doing a study on it? We could buy the study guide and get together to it?

Hi Jacinda (I hope I spelled your name right). I wanted to say that I really have a hard time letting my children spend time with other adults if I am not with them. They do spend time with my in laws and they are more understanding of how we are raising them but we won't have them spend time alone with uncles as they are not and are demean our beliefs when they get the chance. I want to shelter our children more than my DH would like but I know what it is like to be 'poisoned' early on and I don't want that to happen to my little ones. Sorry, I know you posted this to Pam and I may not have fully worded everything correctly and I pray I haven't overstepped the bounds with you or Pam :)

God bless,
Sarah

P.S. Pam I put the comment about your cat in the wrong post.

I've been thinking about you especially since the news about the shooting in OH. We had a lot of news recently about the one year anniversary of the Nickle Mines shooting.

I have the Maxwell's book (KOCH) and I've been wanting to read it. I started to pick it up last week and something else needed my attention.

I thought I'd heard that spaying a cat makes them more docile? Maybe that would help? Maybe that's only with males.

Going on to catch up on your entries!
