Jan. 31, 2008 - Our oldest is now 8!
It's very hard to believe that we have an 8 year old now! She had a lovely tea party here at our house with apple cider (from the crock-pot). It was actually apple juice with things added even though the recipe called for cider (I couldn't find any) it turned out great! All of the girls wore a hat. It was very sweet to have friends in our home to celebrate her birthday.
Maple Mulled Cider
1/2 gallon cider
3-4 cinnamon sticks
2 tsp. whole cloves (I used powdered)
2 tsp. whole allspice (I used powdered)
1-2 Tbsp orange juice concentrate
1-2 Tbsp maple syrup
1) Combine ingredients in slow cooker. 2) cover, Heat on low for 2 hours. Serve warm. I will admit to cooking it for about 4 because I didn't have cider to start with.

We did end up buying her the doll from Michaels. It's very similar to the more expensive dolls. She holds her arms up and has a sort of swivel in her hips to make her easy to dress and prop she even crosses her legs :). I am going to have a longer dress made for the doll but it was a nice alternative for only $10 and $10 for the dress. Not bad!

How sweet! My second son will be eight this coming month and I can hardly believe it! He was just a baby!
Thank you for the comment. No, it is not always easier when they are all close by as there are all the different job schedules, sickness, and trying to find the right clothes that are clean etc. We all love being close by though as we have our best friends close by....

Although it's not 'cider season', this recipe sounds yummy. When I homeschooled my son, we went and watched trees being tapped at maple syrup time. Those were the days. :)
