Oct. 25, 2008 - Prayer For A Young Man Serving His Country

Prayer Request For A Future Marine's Family

Tonight, we are going to a farewell dinner for a young man who is going to serve his country being joining the Marine Force. This young man is 19 years old and will turn 20 in December. His recruiter has already told him, once out of bootcamp plan on a trip to Iraq.

As with all mothers and their desire to protect their children, his mother is having a hard time with the whole idea. His father, having served in the Navy, understands his son's desire to join and at the same time is feeling fatherly love and protection for his son. So as these 2 parents face the challenge of letting their son go, please, pray for them. Pray that when the time comes, his parents can let their grown son go without too many tears and regrets. Pray for this young man as he faces the rigors of boot camp, his life as a marine, and his possible time in Iraq.

The young man doesn't know exactly when he will leave yet. It could be tomorrow or could be in March. He is waiting for an open billet. I will keep you updated as to when he leaves.

God, be with and bless all of our soldiers that are doing their duty by serving our country with bravery and honor.  Be with the families of these young men and women as they serve. Especially, be with those families that have lost loved ones as they paid the ultimate sacrifice for us and our country with their lives.  Amen and Amen.

Jun. 16, 2008 - A Prayer Request

My Mother's Encounter with.....

.....a copperhead snake. Last night, my mother was out carrying water to her flowers. It was just getting dark, somewhere between 9 and 9:30 pm. She sensed something moving and then felt a smack against her ankle. When she turned around to see what ws going on, she felt like she scratched her other ankle. She knew she had been bite by something. She went in and got my father. He found an 18 inch copperhead where she was at. He killed it, then got Momma in the car to head to the ER. By that time my mother's leg had started swelling. She wasn't feeling sick. Her ankle and leg was swelling up. Once in the ER, upon further inspection, she realized she was bitten in the other ankle, too. Both legs were now swelling, one a little worse than the other. The doctors checked her out and decided to keep an eye on her for more swelling for the next 30 minutes. After the 30 minutes, the swelling had slowed down but was still happening. They decided she wasn't swelling enough for a full round of anti-venom, however they gave her 4 vials just to be on the safe side. After watching her for awhile, they sent her home.

She must be feeling better. Much to our dismay, she went to a meeting for a new job this morning. She was going to go swimming with us this afternoon, but my daddy put a stop to that idea. Her legs are still a bit swollen. She is going to take Benadryl (which the docs told her to take for the swelling, I guess it works for almost any type of swelling.) and put her feet up the rest of the afternoon.

Please pray for her continued recovery. Thank you and God bless.
