Thanksgiving traditions

How I love Thanksgiving!!  The start of the winter season.  Hot chocolate, snowmen (can you tell I grew up around Buffalo?) , Christmas carols...just a festive time of year that I have always loved.

Growing up, holidays were traditionally spent in our home.  Relatives came for dinner and food was abundant.  I remember fondly the pies-yum!!  Lemon meringue and chocolate pudding pie were favorites.

One of my favorite things was after Thanksgiving dinner.  My aunts would crowd into the extremely small kitchen that we had to clean up.  Hand washing only- as we did not have a dishwasher.  Then after the table was cleared, the chairs were set back up, the tv turned to football and the tournament began!!  My family was extremely fond of poker and that was the game of choice.  After many years of watching, I was finally allowed to play in my later teenage years.  We played high stakes-pennies only!!  The best part was at the very end of the game.  All pennies were in the pot and everyone drew a card-highest card took them all home.  Of course, they were all brought back out the following year!!

This year we are having a game night the day after Thanksgiving and inviting quite a few friends - ours and those of our children, plus some new folks in town. We are in Michigan so the weather has grown cold and the leaves are almost done turning. We will have the traditional turkey and stuffing and all the fixings. Hope you have a wonderful day.

Your post sounded so cozy! I'm starting to look forward to Thanksgiving! Family times are so good.

I'm going to post a recipe... a little late. It isn't a family tradition - but Blondie and I plan on making it one. This is a marbled pumpkin cheesecake and it is fast becoming a favorite.

Marbled Pumpkin Cheesecake

1 1/4 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 cup NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Mini Morsels, divided use
3 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 (15-ounce) can LIBBY'S® 100% Pure Pumpkin
4 large eggs
1/2 cup NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1. For Crust: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease 9-inch springform pan.
2. Combine graham cracker crumbs, butter and granulated sugar in medium bowl. Press onto bottom of prepared pan. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup morsels.
3. For Cheesecake: Microwave remaining morsels in medium, microwave-safe bowl on HIGH (100%) power for 30 seconds; stir. Microwave at additional 10 to 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth; cool to room temperature.
4. Beat cream cheese, granulated sugar and brown sugar until smooth; beat in pumpkin. Beat in eggs, evaporated milk, cornstarch, cinnamon and nutmeg. Remove 3/4 cup pumpkin mixture; stir into melted chocolate. Pour remaining pumpkin mixture into crust. Spoon chocolate-pumpkin mixture over top; swirl.
5. Bake for 60 to 65 minutes or until edge is set but center still moves slightly. Run knife around edge of cheesecake; loosen and remove side of pan. Cool completely on wire rack. Refrigerate for several hours or overnight.

By the way.... I'm tagging you! see the rules at my blog
