2008 Book Challenge

Update:

As of March 10th, I have completed the following books:

Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati  876 pages

Dawn on a Distant Shore by Sara Donati  647 pages

Lake in the Clouds by Sara Donati  652 pages

Telegraph Days by Sara Donati    405 pages

This puts my total at 4 completed books and 2580 pages read.  I have already started the next book by Sara Donati (Its a six book series) and am halfway through Thirteen Moons by Charles Frasier.  I hope to have both of these completed by the end of March.

My current bible study is To Live is Christ by Beth Moore and I'm reading Homeschooling at the Speed of Life on the sly.

Enjoy!

:)

I have decided to challenge myself to read some great books this year.  Usually, I read tried and true authors that I enjoy.  I will be honest when I say that they have been easy reads, nothing challenging, nothing to increase my brain or thought power.  With three small ones, and now four, it was easiest to fall into a book that I didn't have to process or think about.  Last year, I increased my reading tenfold and started delving into the classics.  Currently, I am reading Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, Thirteen Moons by Charles Frasier (he's the genius that wrote Cold Mountain), and Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati.  As you can see I have a bad habit of working on several books at the same time.

.

Into the Wilderness is a continuation of the story Last of the Mohicans.  It was recommended on a reading group on www.Librarything.com.  I highly recommend this site.  They not only have wonderful reading groups, but you can also catalog your books online!!  I have started cataloging mine.  With moving every few years, this is a wonderful resource for me in case some get "lost".

.

So, my first challenge for 2008 is the classics.  I want to read the following:

1.  Last of the Mohicans

2.  A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens

3.  Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

4.  Persuasion by Jane Austen

5.  Mansfield Park by Jane Austen (can you tell I'm on an Austen kick?)

6.  Les Miserables by Victor Hugo

7.  Lord of the Rings-can you believe that I never read this??

8.  Gone with the Wind

I want to add some more in there, we'll see how these go.

:)

I also want to read the following:

1.  1776

2.  Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurty

3.  Helen of Troy by Margaret George

4.  Master and Commander by Patrick O'Brien

5.  Imperium by Robert Harris

6.  Ride the Wind by Lucia St Clair Robson

7.  I married Wyatt Earp by Josephine Earp

8.  Out of Africa by Isak Dinesen

:)I have a deep love of historical fiction

I have two bible studies that I wish to start.  The first is Parenting with Scripture by Kara Durbin and  Homeschooling with a meek and mild spirit by Terri Maxwell.

:)

I will work on all my Christian fiction that I love.  And I know I have other parenting and homeschooling books to go through, they are upstairs though and the kiddos are trying to get to sleep.

I challenge all of you to beef up your reading this year.  I would love to see what books your reading and your reviews of them!!  Please share!!

I am trying to wade through emails, comments, etc. I wanted to follow up with you on RSS feeds and bloglines.
I am now subbed to your blog so all your posts come automatically to my reader which is bloglines. There are lots of different readers you can choose from. If you get a bloglines account I can help you with it. Its really easy though. You sign up and then subscribe to the various blogs you want to read regularly. They have a notifier you can add that will tell you when there are new posts. You can also add new blogs you come across with a sub to bloglines favorites if you want that. LMK if you have questions still...I apologize in advance if it takes me awhile to repsond though. *blush*
BTW...I love your reading list. I am plugging away at mine too. My oldest dd keeps bringing new books home and it's throwing off my plans...so my list keeps changing! *L*

I love a post about books! Way to go! It's amazing how we find the time to do things like reading when we want to! I don't know people can be "too busy to read." I would fall apart.
