Pretty pink cast

Yesterday, Hallie left Awana and ran to the playground.   A few minutes later, there was a knock on my door, she'd fallen off some equipment.  Luckily, the ground is padded with rubber, so it wasn't too hard.

However, this morning she woke up crying about her wrist.  Took her in to the doctor-actually the triage nurse.  I'll talk about military medicine in a later post.  Anyway, the nurse had an xray done, two hours later the tech read the xray and I received a call.  "Hallie has a buckle fracture on her distal radius."

So off we trotted (on a one hour drive) to a different base to get a cast made.  She cried almost the whole way.  Fear, pain, both.  I was thankful when we got there.  All went well-the cast went on.  And pretty pink too!  It still hurts a little but the Motrin is helping with that.

Here's a photo with her new cast.

Apr. 29, 2008 - Poor Thing....Cool Cast!

We joke in our house-each kid is allowed to break 2 bones in their lifetime at our house....Kyra's were wrist-one from a skating fall, one from hitting herself with a softball bat (weird child)....she got RED casts.
Zach's was a 2 for 1 deal-broke both arm bones (on one arm) falling off a top bunk and hitting a desk on the way down....he chose black or camo for his I think. Alex waited till high school and broke his hand while playing catcher at a baseball game. He's SUCH the man-broke it at the top of the batting order but didn't bother telling his coach till the game was over...!!!! We pretty much knew that one was broken-he took his hand out of his glove and it looked like a messed up jigsaw puzzle!!!
So far Cameron and Isaac have not taken us up on the broken bone offer.....which probably means they are saving it up for something REALLY special!!! Just gotta love 'em!

I was wondering why she was crying Sunday! Poor baby! A message from Claire:

"I hope your wrist gets better! And I hope you have a fun day at Awana next week! Can I write my name on your cast?"

Oh, I'm sorry. My daughter has broken both arms at the wrist, one five years ago, once a month ago. She is in her last two weeks of casting right now. I'll be memorable! I hope she feels better soon.
