Translation issues!

One of the funniest things about living overseas is the translation issue.  While visiting a nearby zoo, we laughed at the donkey exhibit.  An English sign discussed the differences between a donkey and a horse, only halfway through the paragraph horse became house.  Very funny to Americans.

.

Japanese wear lots of tshirts with American sayings on them-sometimes the translation is wrong, but we get the jist of it.  In fact, I can say that I've never seen a tshirt with Japanese writing on it-its always in English.  Most of the people can't read or write in English, which makes the following extremely funny.

.

I have some wonderful friends with three children, the youngest two are preschool age.  They have put their boys into a Christian Japanese preschool-finding a Christian one is not an easy task.  They are thrilled with their preschool and the wonderful Christian people there.

.

So my friend's husband goes the other day to pick up the boys and the woman who greets him has a huge friendly smile on her face.  She's literally beaming with joy.  On her tshirt is says F*CK Housework, only the * isn't there.

.

Keith, actually manages to not bust out laughing-I'm sure that I totally would have.  This poor woman had absolutely no idea what her tshirt said and had no idea that is was offensive; not to mention the fact that she was with preschool age children the entire day.  Thankfully, my friends children haven't started reading yet so they didn't realize it either.

.

Under normal circumstances, I would find this extremely offensive.  I have to admit however, I do find this quite funny.  Japanese are infatuated with American tshirts.  I could probably print up ABCDEFG123 on a tshirt and they would buy them like hotcakes!!

.

Hope I brought you a little laugh today!

We just couldn't do it!!! We have a LOT of Vietnamese in our part of town and my 15 year old (clown/ham) has developed his own version of their accent/speech.....it has gotten so bad that we can't take him into any Asian restaraunt without him trying to "use" his accent! We're so terrified he's going to get into trouble with this someday.........but it's hilarious! You should see us all trying to order Chinese food while watching Alex physically keep his mouth closed to keep from saying anything!!!!! He keeps us in stitches!!! His brother, Zach, has amazing British and Indian accents....its' really funny when the two of them get going!!!!!
