Garden Party
Kurt Talbott, homeschool dad of 4, president of the Lebanon
Area Homeschoolers board and Athletic Director of LAH, was
just diagnosed with leukemia on Friday.  He is currently in the
hospital and will be there for 4-8 weeks.  His daughter started
a group on Facebook for him and I imagine she'll put updates
on there: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=12934313617

A few homeschool families helped organize a garden work day at
the family's home outside Phillipsburg today to help them get their
garden in.  This was a great opportunity to allow folks to serve. The
organizers are also drumming up donations for living and medical
expenses (the family is uninsured).  My kids and I worked with a few other people hoeing rows for the corn and making mounds for the watermelon. We also helped plant the corn and watermelon and hope and pray it all grows well  If not, they'll know who to blame for that section of the garden, ha, ha!

We also brought a dozen farm fresh eggs from our chickens for the Talbotts.  We would have brought more but we had already sold out for the day.  I think I'm going to work on keeping some back for them each week as well as setting aside extra bread and other baked goods on our baking days.

It's amazing what can be done in a short time when folks get together and work towards a common goal!  Harold and I have been organizing and working with homeschoolers over our way to help the homeschool family in Buffalo whose home was damaged by the tornado recently and have been blessed with very generous families donating money, clothes, etc.

Anyway, here are some photos of the garden party.  Prayerfully, Kurt will be home soon and can be sitting out on the back deck to enjoy looking at the garden :) Please keep theTalbott's in prayer...I know they would appreciate it!

Thanks for your visit and nice empathy over at my place, lol! It's so nice to know that even someone who was home educated themself is cautiously approaching high school! 'Misery loves company' and all that, lol!

Have a lovely week~

Wow~

Thanks so much for all of the encouragement and information. I actually had known about homeschoolalumni.org, and think it's a pretty neat thing.

Yes, things feel overwhelming right now, but I know a few things: 1) I *always* overcomplicate things, and by the time the new year begins I will have a better grasp on reality, lol, 2) "this too shall pass" is a favorite mantra of mine, and 3) God is directing me, so how can I fail?

Your story of your friend was so nice to read, and I shall remember all your words of encouragement! I especially liked the part where you said that since you all had been home educated, you knew that it worked. That's so comforting, in a way. I *KNOW* that this is the right choice for our family, but it's so nice to see validation along the journey.

Have a lovely week!

I am sorry it has took me awhile to get back to you. I love this story about everyone helping plant a friend's garden. If all of us would do things like that, what a much better world this would be.

I am glad you liked my blog. I have received alot of compliments on it. I can't take all the credit though. I had help from Ali from Mission Field Designs. She did all the hard work and taught me how to add graphics. I have a link to her sight on my blog.

Lilacs smell so good. Blackberrys are one of my favorite fruits. They will be ripe in a month . Can't wait.

Drop by again soon for a visit. Tafy Sills from Blackberry Lane Farm
