Welcome to our Summer Reading Splash!
We are so pleased that you stopped by our blog! That must mean that you're planning on doing lots of reading this summer and participating in our summer reading program. We've got lots of fun things planned for you throughout the summer. We'd like to tell you about a few of them and get you excited about reading.
Each week, here on our blog, we will be posting a new topic question. We'd like you to think about these and then e-mail your answers to us by clicking here. E-mailing your answers is much safer than leaving a comment. If you have your own e-mail address, that's fine; if not, have your mom or dad e-mail your answer to us. Each Friday we will have a drawing and we'll be giving away some fantastic books (and series of books)! Also, we may pick YOUR answer to post here on our blog- just for fun!
You'll want to check out our Summer Reading Splash webpage also- here you'll have access to downloading our log sheets. We will have one for younger children and one for older children available. Please, please, please keep track of ALL the books you read. At the end of the program, we'll have a special prize for those of you who turn in your reading logs (more details to come!)
We also have suggestions for setting reading goals and some great-looking bookmarks that you can download, and we'll be offering more downloads over the next several weeks.
If you have a blog here at HSB, be sure to add us to your friends list so you will remember to check back often. Don't forget to come by each Monday to find the TOPIC OF THE WEEK!
Let TOS help make reading FUN this summer!
*For those who are having trouble using the email link above (or in the posts), you can e-mail your comments, ideas, etc. to me at hstrawser (at) thehomeschoolmagazine (dot) com. Thanks!

Hi, my son is interested in the summer Splash reading program. His name is Joseph and he's 5 1/2 yrs old. His reading level is 1. Being that he is finishing grade K this week, and will be grade 1 in the fall, can he still be a part? He loves to read. :) Thanks and have a great day!

As the author of a children's book series I am thrilled to see children being encouraged to read all year round. I am especially impressed with parents who homeschool their children. Mine are grown. Sadly, I didn't know homeschooling was a possibility when they were young.
Keep up the good work.

Yes, I tried to download the printable recording sheets and for some reason when we saved the file to our computer, it wouldn't convert! It said 'unable to convert graphics', and I didn't know if anyone else had had this problem! And how we could perhaps fix it!
Thanks!

May. 20, 2008 - Contest

Hi my kids entered the contest and I was wondering if all they had to do was email why they liked to read and thats it? Also how do we know who the weekly winners are? I had them email from my personal address because they do not have individual addresses, I hope that is fine. I love this weekly contest idea as well as the reading summer splash. My kids were rambling on about how they can't wait to get new books over the summer, and have already begun trying to fill out the list. They are even reading to there younger siblings just to help them have some books to put into there logs.It is great. Thanks!
Blessings

My e-mail address is linked in each post as well as in the sidebar. If the link doesn't work, I've included my address (in yellow print) at the end of the above post). Please feel free to add this address to your e-mail address books.
The Splash! program is open to ALL homeschool children~ any age, any grade~ preschool through graduation! We want ALL children reading this summer.
To add me to your friends list, you have to have a blog as homeschoolblogger. If you are logged into your account, just click my link for "my profile" in the sidebar. From there, click where it says "add as a friend".
If you do not blog as hsb, and you want to keep up with things here at the Splash! blog, please consider signing up for our e-mail feed. Simply type your e-mail address into the sidebar, and you'll be notified by e-mail each time this blog is updated.
I will be posting each week's contest winners on Saturdays. I will also be sharing some of the kids' answers to the topic questions (first name and age only, for safety reasons). I've gotten some GREAT responses.
Feel free to contact me via e-mail anytime with questions, comments, or concerns.
Enjoy the Splash!

Good thing school's about over, eh? This is gearing up to make quite a Splash on HSB and perhaps all over Bloggyland. I am so thrilled for you, but at times you may wonder, "How did I get myself into this?" (Since you have so many other things going on, too!). I feel the very same way most weeks. LOL
I signed up for the e-mail so I don't have to guess when to come over and see what's next. I gave the logs to my DD for her kids. I SO hope she participates, but it's hard now that they don't have internet and only wander over to our house once in a while to check their e-mail. *sigh*
Grandma can only do so many things!

Hi to Mrs/Miss Heidi!
Sorry- but I have another Q :)
In July, how are we going to turn our book lists in? Do we mail them to you, or e-mail? Just wondering!

We haven't totally decided how that will work at the end of the summer. You may just e-mail your list to me~ that seems to be about the easiest method that I can think of.
I love all the questions! Keep them coming!

Bryan (12), Victoria (8), and Caitlyn (6) are all enjoying reading this summer and Caitlyn loves crossing off the frogs for each book she's reading. They are watching their logs getting longer with each book they complete and look forward to entering the contest in a few weeks.
