Another busy week ahead...

Chris' boss is coming to town to ride with him for a few days this week and wants to take us to dinner. Never met him so that's neat!

Guy (our dog) needs surgery on his right hip. Apparently he's had bad arthritis that we didn't even know about and now needs to surgically remove the femoral part of his right hip. So that will be done this Friday most likely.

My brother is buying a new car and has me emailing all these dealers looking for rock-bottom prices. He's looking for a 2007 4Runner. Nice car.

Where is the day going?

I amso ashamed to mention this. It's rare, but it happens. We slept in today. Bad. We just got out of bed and it's 11:20. That's what we get for running like a bunch of nuts for weeks on end with little sleep and alot of harassment!

Lately it's been so stressful and busy that I'm stating to worry. I'm forgetting things now! I had to go and get one of those day planners you can stuff in your purse. Now I pull it out if a field trip is mentioned or something is due or even suggested. Getting older......geez!

Chris is on the phone speaking to the bank about our home loan and that's nerve-wracking alone.

Even the sun feels different today. Wonder if I'm getting sick or it's just the sleeping in very late thing. The whole day feels off now.

Fires Fires Everywhere

This is the most ridiculous dry season! Every time I'm on a major highway I see smoke from another fire burning in the distance.

Talked to a friend last night who was able to get her son into the local Christian school! Hooray for her! It had quite the wait too so we're all happy for her!

Nick hurt his hand last night in a game. He was up at bat and the pitcher hit his left hand with a pitch and he sat out the rest of the game. This is the same hand, same spot where he broke it three years ago wrestling with his cousin who is 8 years older than him. So I've got another doctor's appointment today to get that looked at.

Mother's da is coming up. Geez. Is it me or is time flying by???

I fit in Nick's shoes. He just turned 8. Good grief!!!

PLan on joining Weight Watchers tonight if all goes well. It's been super busy.

I just overjoys me no end when I vaccuum the carpet and the dog barfs on it.....yummy...

Saltwater Taffy on a Sunday

Well it's Sunday and here I sit at my husband's computer typing away and eating saltwater taffy. The pink ones are pretty good!

Getting back into routine after Easter and Disney is harder than it should be. We are still exhausted! I guess that's an added benefit of getting older:)

This little girl told me I looked 42 yesterday...I'm 30. haha Yes, tired and old.

Nick has turned Chris and I onto the video game Rampage. It's hysterical! You choose a monster to be and then pick a city to destroy. No bloodshed or anything like that...Just lots of smashing, trashing, throwing taxis and eating buses, climbing buildings and stomping them down fun...:)It's a hoot!

This week should be easier since we're done with school for this grade. It's a wonderful thing!

Finally met our neighbors this weekend. Strange though they may be. I think I liked them more when they ran from us.

Every time I took the dog out they would run back in their house and sometimes even shut their blinds.

So the guy gets a boat and immediately wants to take all the kids (and a parent) out fishing in a few weeks. I think he just wants to dump them all overboard and leave....Chris disagrees.

We're starting the loan process to actually buy a house today. We are renting because we wanted to make sure we liked the area. We like it! It is exciting! We are eligible for a nice size loan but it's a bummer when you have to put the brakes on concerning the max monthly payment you really want. We'll see. We have so many questions.

I realize how blessed we really are after talking to some ladies I've known since moving over here. Their incomes are far less than ours and they make it by on far less than we do. It just makes me look at the financial situation that we have with more respect and thankfulness to the Lord!!!!!!!!!!!

As the dog runs by chasing a fly....

We get the cousins this summer which is fun! Chris' brother and his wife turn 40 this year so we said we would take the kids for a few weeks so they could do something fun together.

Oh, my sister ushered 90 public high schoolers up to Williamsburg VA this week for a band thing. God Bless her!

webkinz and weight watchers

Well Nick has turned 8 and life is as jubilant as ever :)

Easter was wonderful and it was great to see family from up north!

Disney was exhausting and parts of my body still ache that I never knew existed.

Nick got these Webkinz things for his bday and loves them! They're cute. He has the alley cat, the panda and the yorkie puppy. More on that later!

Deb's ushering 96 band members (sophomores in high school no less) up to Williamsburg VA tomorrow afternoon for a band thing. God bless her....

Julie's tax day was today and I still haven't heard from her. Hope she came up alive. She's been doing taxes now for 24 years.....every year it starts with a bang after New Years...

Went with Nora to get my sister-in-law a peice of jewelry for her 40 th bday this weekend. It's beautiful! It's a 1/2 carat journey diamond white gold and she's going to LOVE IT!!!

We decided not to go to Minnesota this Summer but Nora's going and sh'es bringing back the kids (Katrina,9 and Tim, 7) for 3 weeks so we're taking them to Orlando. Like we haven't had enough...

I'm joining weight watchers this week and that's exciting! I'll keep posting the progress!

Where did the memory go??

What did I just say?

Wha? Who??

I wanted to recomend a book I'm reading on here and I can't remember the name of it.

So out of pure unadulterated laziness I will not get up and get it.

Had a chiropractic appointment today and the nurse asked about homeschooling. I opened my mouth to speak and the doctor answered for me. Cute!

She had most of her info correct. Even asked if I was going to the convention in May. Interesting!

Nick was sleepwalking again last night. We have a jingle bell on his door so we hear him when he leaves his room so he doesn't cavort out the front door. I heard the bell...twice. He must have gone back inside his room. I heard him sigh loudly and head back out the door, only to go back in his room again.

I get up and he comes zooming out of his room almost running and ran right into me! He  screamed AAGGGHHH! and I coudn't help but laugh. It was dark and he was incoherent and I really wans't expecting him to come zooming out like that. So I got him settled and comfortable. I stretched out next to him for a little while in case he decided to race out of there again.

It's cloudy here and it would be nice for the rain! I guess there's another slight cold front coming again. Not that there's any moisture in the air to get rid of anyway. It will just make more dry skin appear on the oiliest of skintypes.

We are in a severe drought and it was inthe papers today that the wells are drying up. We're in well water and don't want to deal with this. Apparently it's a few thousand for a new, deeper well. They say the rains won't come for at least another 2 months.

I love Holy Week

Easter is my favorite holiday (aside from Christmas!) Holy Week is the best week of the year! Yesterday at church we read the Passion according to St. Matthew and held the palms. It was beautiful!

We finish 2nd grade this Friday! Whee! So exciting!

We will be on the other coast for Easter with family again this year. My neices and nephews (ages 15-19) want another egg hunt. I do one every year for them that is more difficult. I use clues and make it a scavenger hunt. This year we're doing it Saturday night when it's dark. The winner gets a HUGE solid chocolate bunny. I've already got the clues set and the activities are: get Uncle Wally's autograph, translate the colors into Spanish, find a penny from 1999, and I forgot the others already......oh well! I have them written somewhere!

This Friday night we're going to a professional baseball game with Nick's team so that will be fun! Fireworks afterwards!

Speaking of fires, there was a fire a few miles from us yesterday. We woke up this morning to find it stopped only ONE MILE from our house!! Scary!! It's very dry here right now and the fires are out of control big time! It's one thing to have the Evergaldes burning but another to have it so close to home.

It's not REALLY free....

I just went onto that Homeschool Soup website and saw all that cool 'free' software and placed my order....to find the shipping was $30. HA!

Saw a new chiropractor the other day and boy is she funny. I got electronic pulsed, massaged, stretched, tweaked, waxed, plucked, spread witha fine current jelly and sent to France. What a hoot!

My son found a black widow spider in the garage yesterday! Freaked me out! So I went onto YahooAnswers to figure out how to kill this thing and everyone said to hire an exterminator. He told me there was nothing to get rid of them. Lovely!

I can't believe Easter is just a week and a half away. It was just Christmas!

I joined the local Freecycle ring in the area and all these cool things are offered. Pets, furniture, children. The next time I eat a twinkie, I'm going to save half and put it up there. It's like Ebay without the shipping.

Now that's FREE!!

Lazy Saturdays are the best

When the north winds blow and the thunder in the distance reaches your ears.

When love is not measured by a microscope but by imagination.

When everything is quiet and you question it.

When we judge others as we would WANT to be judged.

When others judge us the SAME.

When OUR JUDGE blesses us with a beautiful day.....

TGIF

Fridays are fun!

We took the day off from school to go see Ninja Turtle movie and it was very good! The only objectionable criticism I could put on it was the tight clothes the girls wear in the film.

I was sitting in my car waiting for Nick to get done with his guitar lesson when I heard this radio broadcast about the homeschooling fiasco in Germany.

People were calling in who send their kids to public school and they were horrified that these German kids are being taken away from their parents like that! Apparently in Germany, for kindergarten, the children are encouraged to go to the back of the room (nude of they want!) and are allowed to explore their bodies and their friend's bodies! This is supposed to encourage comfort with the human body! How ridiculous can you be????!!!!

They are encouraging people to call the German embassy and telling them to stop this OBSCENE attack on homeschoolers!! I plan on doing this on Monday.

In the homeschool convention coming up the keynote speaker will be discussing the rights of homeschoolers here in the states being under attack. The guy is from the HSLDA and that's the main reason I am going this year.

Boy those Edy's Dibs ice cream things are really good.

What's going on with the blog order??

It's all discombobulated! Did I spell that right?

Things have been fine around here! Baseball is great! Even though we lost last Mon by one point.

Nick started a recorder class yesterday and loves it:) He's in there with a bunch of girls. Oh well!

We have PE today and more baseball practice tonight. Flat Stanley is due tomorrow in Minnesota so I gotta get those pics printed so I can mail it out today as well.

Easter is rapidly appraoching! That's exciting! The older I get the more I enjoy Easter time. Maybe it's the fact I can appreciate it alot more now that I am older.

Gotta go find a yo-yo now.

Oh! Another Week in the Land of the Orthmann's

Yep, another fantabulous week!

More of the same here, really.

Chris is back home:) He had fun and learned alot!

Nick's team won last Sat's game at 11-10! Quite the game!

We went shopping on Sat and out to dinner. Then took Sunday slow and went to church.

Today the bug man came and sprayed while we were watching the 10am news in our pj's. I had a heck of a headache again last night so I got to sleep in! Double :)

Right now Nick's learning perimeter and area and measuring our dining room table.

That's all for today really. Got another game tonight!

Before a Busy Saturday...

We have practice at 10am then a game at 11am. Then we go to Lowe's and get some stuff for the house. Come home and get ready to go to a barbeque at the neightbor's house. Boy were they LOUD last night too! They're a block away and we heard them in their pool, on their patio, loud music. I had to shut the windows so we could hear the news.

Nick woke up and 5 minutes later was running out the ice cream truck that rolled by at 7:30am!! It was all I could do to grab a cup of coffee and watch with him. His breakfast today consisted of an ice cream sandwich. It was Chris' and my fault we told him he could have it the next time he heard the truck. Even at the break of waking up.

Must go and give the dog a bath. He stinks!

Wrapping up the Week

I hope I have a computer next week. Chris had do download an update from the company and it's messing up the internet connection on my computer. Thank you honey for letting me use yours:) Unfortunately he takes his withhim when he leaves Monday morning. At least I got the taxes done!!!haha

Nick woke up today even more congested than he was all week so I called another recomended pediatrician. Hope this one works out!!

We're wrapping up the school week today and if Nick's up to it we'll go finish the pottery that he never got back to at this pottery place we go to. I don't think we'll be doing baseball practice tonight, judging by the look of him:(

My sister cancelled this weekend which is fine. We all need a break!

We are celebrating Nick's 8th birthday in Disney this April and I told him he could bring a friend. He picked his long time friend Katelyn who he's very close to. The problem is she goes to public school and her mother is funny about letting her skip since we're going during the week. I hope she lets her go!

It's off to take a spelling test! :)

Another horified pediatrician

One would think that in south FL, a pediatrician would see more than a few homeshoolers in their practice.

I had to take Nick in due to severe chest congestion and wheezing. There was a retired doc that saw him who was helping the reg. doc out.

The doc had never met any homeschoolers down here! WOW! So he actually sat down with us and had a zillion questions like 'Do you report to the state for academics?' and the like.

I answered him and he was astounded in how many of us there were! He asked if we got a refund from the state tax becuase we don't send our kids to public school and I said no, of course.

He told me to write the senator and get a movement going since we shouldn't have to pay since we don't use the institution.

I never thought of that! I think I'll look into it!

The session ended with me asking him if he had any more questions and giving him access to more info. if he so wanted and a shake of the hands. I felt like it was my office for 10 minutes:)

A new lawnman and a lawyer

We're gettin' to know the new lawn service this Friday! After the last guy who sliced up our screen and ran over the drain pipe and never fixed it I suppose the new guy will be better! We met him at a homeschool event last January and got his card. He likes to maintian a relationship with the client....never had that before! :)

The lawyer thing is with a friend of mine who likes to attend the board meetings in her community. Apparently she and one of the directors raised their voices last week about the fact he never returns anyone's phone calls. She was the scapegoat for all those who wouldn't confront him. Anyway, she got a letter a few days later stating that her behavor was "bizarre" and "uncalled for". At the meeting last night he was a no show.

So she called me for my brother-in-law's work phone and called him at work for advice on the situation.

More on this at a later date as it develops...

Hey!No poop in the house :)

Went to the new library yesterday and it's gorgeous! It's very beautiful when you walk in and it's almost like you're in a swanky hotel and approach the concierge desk. High arched ceilings and gold tones offset the majestic pillars that ride up to meet the dome at the entrance......says Robin Leach.....haha

We have access to the outside whirled!

Amazing! A computer that works...and a promise that the next time it breaks we get a new one. This is getting ridiculous!

We have these friends from Germany and they have 2 kids, ages 6 and 4. Their eldest they send to public school and can't understand why we homeschool. I never understood that until the fiasco with that poor homeschooling family over in Germany.

Anyway, they put their 6 year old in kindergarten and were appalled at the behavior of the class as a whole. The principal would not meet with them to discuss this. Apparently the behavior was so disruptive that they weren't learning anything.

I tried to explain that this is one of the reasons we do homeschool. This has been going on since before Christmas. So now they finally got their son in another classroom and don't like that one either. Now they have him on a waiting list for the local Christian school.

I asked them why they wanted a change and they said becuase of the Christian curriculum and the kids behave better. They still don't know why we homeschool. These are not stupid people! Why don't they get it?

I sincerely think that they were subjected to this form of thought in Germany and it followed them over here. I hope they realize that Chris and I are not secluding Nick and all that other nonsense.

There's a huge homeschooling convention this May that we want to go to with these friends of ours (not the Germans :)haha and I hope we learn a little more and meet some new people. It's encouraging to go these conventions! They really help to reaffirm your duty to your kids and your spouse and God's plan for you!!

The dog is eating a pencil.....

Another beautiful day

Woke up this morning and immediately opened up the windows to let in this gorgeous weather we're having. The cold front took alot of the humidity out and it's sunny and clear!

Great day to transfer the desk outside:) Especially when Nick's getting over a cold.

Hopefully my sister and her family will be able to make it over to visit this weekend! Nick's got batting practice Friday night and Saturday morning and then a game afterwards on Saturday so our weekend is, again, tied up by baseball. But maybe we can join them at the beach after.

Looks like we'll have family in town for Easter! We're going over to the other coast where all the family is. Only now we'll add more to the mix and more kids Nick's age to play with. My nieces and nephews are almost done with high school or already in college. It will be fun going to church together and doing an egg hunt for 4 little kids instead of my one and the older cousins! I love that stuff!

We're already looking into summer camps for Nick to be a part of. We plan on taking a break after 2nd grade this April and part of May and then starting back up again 3rd grade and do it randomly this summer so we can do both. No strict policy about it though. Just do what we feel.

We continue to host a Flat Stanley from Katrina, my neice, this month. So far Stanley has drivena  pntoon boat and gotten his picture with manatees and an alligator! I might do a Flat Stanley for Nick this year. It's fun:)

No Flu Shot For Us

I took Nick to the doctor today because I thought his cold was getting worse. We went to this new office and it was very modern and there were no toys for the children.

It was very factory-like. I didn't care for it at all. This office was recomended too! The doctor seemed to know what he was doing but all in all, not impressed.

Whatever happened to personal care? Anyway, it's just a virus. The doctor tried to push the flu shot on us.

I have come to the realization that the flu shot is just another way to make people sick so they can sell their antibiotics and other medicine. Another money-making fiasco if you ask me. We never get sick when we skip it, only when we get the shot!

So there will be no flu shots for us:)

The Phone Is Now Lost For All Eternity

So we've been having this trouble with the phone line now for almost 2 months. The voice on the other end would be faint. Sometimes we couldn't hear the person at all but they could hear us.

So this morning my husband goes to fax and the line is completely dead. An irate hubby leaves the building to find a working fax line.

I use the mobile to call the phone company and they will be here anytine between 'now' and 7:15pm tonight.

There goes the post office, the local natural food supermarket, and the pet store.

Had a little hassle last night when I realized how close to April we are already. We're supposed to meet my family in Disney the 2nd week adn haven't booked a resort yet.

During Spring Break it's very busy so you have to book early and I forgot that little fact. So hubby and I called Disney seeing what we could do and were placed on hold and must have listened to 'yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me' a dozen times before the perkiest individual on the face of the earth picks up at 10pm on a Sunday.

There is nothing available for under $315 a night. Which is  fine if you're doing the pool thing, the whole resort thing. But if you just want t place to crash for the night really like us, we need something cheaper.

So we ended up getting right outside the main gate at a Marriott and we're happy.

Shuttles to the parks and tickets available there is just what we want.

We'll actually be there for Nick's 8th birthday and we told him he could bring a friend! He is sooooooooexcited! So are we:)
