Dec. 13, 2006 - Come visit my new/other blog!

Posted in Misc Thoughts

As most of you know, HSBlogger has been making some pretty radical changes. I applaud them for their effort to keep up with the times, but I'm not so sure I like the changes. Even if I get used to them, in the meantime, many , and I mean MANY, of the featurees are not working properly right now. This is hard on my nervous system! ;-) My house is not very orderly right now and my blogging was one of the few places where I felt a sense of peace and order.....(that, and the kids bathroom which I recently did a makeover on!)...

So, what I'm trying to say is: I have started another blog: Sunydazy Days over at Blogger (where my dear hubby has a blog). I am not dumping this one (for now). I'm just going to let it sit quietly for a little bit while I wait and see how HSB handles all the problems.  All you faithful to the end types...Don't get mad at me for thinking of leaving! I made a covenant to stay with my hubby till death do we part and to endure through thick and thin, but I have no such covenant with Homeschoolblogger! :-)

Come and pay me a visit!

Dec. 11, 2006 - Go shopping here!

Posted in Misc Thoughts

Want a great place to Christmas shop? Try Biblical Womanhood!
A beautiful place with loads of helps for Christian women and young ladies everywhere.

I know there are lots of things I would love to have from there;-).
If you shop there by using my link above or look for it on the right hand side under 'Places to Shop' category, you'll help me earn a little bit of commision. Every little bit is a blessing!

Since Homeschoolblogger has made all the changes I'm not sure if I can get the link to work in this post or not but I'll give it a try!

I'll probably add a few other affiliate links in the sidebar to places I really like, so keep looking for them in the future.

P.S. My "help me' drawing is still open (see my last post). I could still use more helpful tips. I've already started using some of the ideas from the first 2 commenters. Please help me! You don't HAVE to have a book if you don't want! ;-D I just thought it would entice a few more commenters.

Thanks in advance!

Nov. 9, 2006 - Modesty

Posted in Misc Thoughts

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I don't think I should have to say very much here, but have you seen the clothing available for young ladies these days? I've had to do quite a bit of sewing and creative shopping to make sure River Girl is clothed decently. I have pretty much given up hope that the big companies will do anything about this. Why should they? The vast majority of the country just buys whatever the designers and big companies put on the racks. They never worry about the fact that the standards for decency are now in the toilet, much less that clothing is now just an androgynous type of thing with very little thought given to beauty or femininity. I am a true believer in being wholly feminine. Girls should not dress like boys...but being feminine does NOT mean being 'sexy' or immodest. Wake up world! Let's protect our daughters from this shamefulness. Surely we have enough common sense to buck the trends on this one...

For those of you who have an interest in supporting some small companies that have dared to stay with traditional and lovely styles check out the following links:

Lilies of the Field

Hannah Lise

A Joyful Handmaiden

Simply Modest

Swim Modest

Cottage Primrose

Vessels of Mercy

4 Modesty

I'm sure there are many more companies doing this and maybe even some large companies. My goal is not to tell you where to shop but to encourage you to think before you choose. Don't buy into the modern society's low standards just because you haven't noticed.  Make a stand for goodness, innocence and femininity!

Moms for Modesty Mission Statement

  • As a Mom for Modesty I believe in common-sense modesty for girls and young women.
  • I believe in refraining from sexualizing our girls and young women.
  • I believe that it is unwise and unfair to taunt boys and young men by permitting my daughter(s) to dress in an immodest manner.
  • I believe that true beauty comes from within and I strive to teach my daughter(s) this truth.
  • I will loyally shop at retailers that provide girls' and young womens clothing that is modest, affordable and stylish.

Oct. 28, 2006 - New Auction Sites!

Posted in Misc Thoughts
Press Release:
New Internet Auction Site Launched to Help the Homeschool Community

Homeschool Buy welcomes online shoppers and vendors seeking a new online auction site since eBay's ban on selling teacher's editions.

White Pine, TN – With the holiday shopping season right around the corner, fans of online auction sites are introduced to the new kid on the block - www.HomeschoolBuy. com. Homeschool Buy is poised to meet the needs of homeschoolers and others who were turned away when eBay decided to prohibit the sale of Teacher's Editions. Homeschool Buy is prepared to handle much, much more than just homeschool curriculum though; they are equipped to handle everything from clothing, to craft items, to cameras, and kitchen items! Anything home and family-oriented is welcome.

While other online auction sites have popped up since eBay's big mistake, Homeschool Buy is unique because it comes with a built-in market – the readers of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine and the blogging communities at www.HomeschoolBlogg er.com and www.HomesteadBlogger.com. Some of those folks are the exact ones who encouraged Paul and Gena Suarez, publishers of The Old Schoolhouse, to pursue creating an online auction site that would welcome homeschoolers and their Teacher's Editions. Danny Carlton of JackLewis.net is the webmaster over the new community. He has been instrumental in working with attorneys and script experts to meet deadlines each step of the way. The design is also Carlton ’s creation.

Paul and Gena also hope that their decision to offer an option where the seller would have no basic listing fees will help to encourage people who have never listed at auction sites before to get involved.  Unless a product sells, there are no backend auction fees. Customers who are familiar with eBay will find that the set-up is very similar, including being able to create and operate your own store, yet tailored especially to be family-friendly. HSB stores are priced much lower than eBay’s store options as well. Any vendor can set up “shop” with their own custom “place” on the web to do business complete with a very custom traffic base – and on the cheap. While the site is designed to appeal to homeschoolers by giving them the opportunity to buy and sell Teacher's Editions, the site is definitely open to others outside the homeschool community as well.  Family commerce on the ‘Net.

The homeschool market is estimated to be a billion dollar a year marketplace and Homeschool Buy provides a venue for everyone from individual families to small companies to mainstream vendors to join the marketplace. Whether it's families cleaning off the bookshelves to make some extra Christmas money or a company striving to move products off of their shelves, Paul and Gena Suarez welcome them to give Homeschool Buy a try. Teacher's Editions are welcome!

I have tried and and tried to get mine to show up the same way but to no avail. I have turned it on in my blog settings and someone told me that they are getting a feed from me.Why can't I get it to work for me? Anyone RSS savvy out there who can help me? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Aug. 21, 2006 - Good morning world!

Posted in Misc Thoughts

(or whoever is reading this). I am up and getting ready to go to go for the day with cheerfulness in my heart.

Since I haven't been online much lately I just this morning realized that one of my dear friends (Daylily) has started a blog right here on Homeschool Blogger! I am sooo excited about this.

She is struggling with the momentous decision of whether or not to homeschool all her children this year and has had a really rough year. Please go visit her new blog and encourage her in any way you can and welcome her to Homeschool Blogger.

She has recently had many major surgeries, her mother died a few months ago and one of her daughters has juvenile arthritis. As we all know hard times come to us all. It's good to have brothers and sisters offer words of encouragement...food for the soul. Sometimes that is all that it takes to get us back on our feet again. Daylily is a great lady who always had a good sense of humor and I hope to hear her smiles coming back through her posts and look forward to reading her blog regularly.

Well! Gotta go! Loads and loads of work waiting for me today...

Jun. 30, 2006 - Apple of My Eye

Posted in Misc Thoughts

Do you ever tell someone they are the apple of your eye?

I do.

I tell each of my children that.

How is it possible to have more than one apple of my eye? I don't know exactly how it works...it just does.

My oldest son is the apple of my eye.

He is steady and uncompromising.

I love him because he is my son.

I love him because he is who he is.

My oldest daughter is the apple of my eye.

She is industrious and outgoing and likes to share...everything!

I love her because she is my daughter.

I love her because she is who she is.

My second son is the apple of my eye.

He is determined and strong and ready for anything.

I love him because he is my son.

I love him because he is who he is.

My second daughter is the apple of my eye.

She is calmly interested in the world around her. She likes to see what people are doing.

I love her because she is my daughter.

I love her because she is who she is.

My third daughter is the apple of my eye.

She is busy and curious and likes to go, go, go.

I love her because she is my daughter.

I love her because she is who she is.

Do you see a pattern here?.

I don't love one more than another...I love them each the most!

I love them each differently.

Love grows. It is infinite.

If we as sinful, imperfect, humans can love this much, how much more does God love us...His children?

It doesn't matter if there are a kajillion others...I am the apple of His eye!

He made me and loves me...just because he wants to!

That brings me peace.

That brings me joy!

Just think about it for a while.

Jun. 27, 2006 - My Fuzzy Brain

Posted in Misc Thoughts

Well, I haven't posted much lately. Maybe you noticed?

I was up for much of the last 2 nights tending to little ones. Last night my 3 year old had a very croupy cough thing going. I'm 'plum wore out' today....:-) sooo, I can't seem to think clearly enough to write anything. I can't even figure out how to tell you why I'm so tired...

Yesterday I visited a blog that had me laughing so hard I cried. Why don't you pay TC a visit at Fish in My Hair and read some of her funny entries. I'll be back at this blogging thing soon.

Have a great day!

May. 31, 2006 - Seven Habits of Highly Effective Homeschool Bloggers

Posted in Misc Thoughts

If you are new to blogging the above link will help you learn ways to improve your blogging. It's always good to be working on developing good habits.

Thanks to the lists and ideas of the kind folks at ClassicalEducation4Me and TrinityPrepSchool  I plan to work on the following habits:

1. Let people know the real you! Be honest with your postings and share the good and the bad. I am not perfect and I don't pretend to be. Sharing the bad moments helps others see that you are a real person.

2. Update often. I try to post something at least several times each week. I want my blog to be an encouragement to others, so I plan to share lots of good stuff! The number of readers doesn't matter to me as long as I am helping others. I also want my blog to fun for family and friends to visit so that they can keep up with daily happenings in our lives.

3. Post pictures when you can. I love seeing other families and what is going on in their lives and I know our distant family members enjoy seeing photos of the kiddoes. Hi family!

4. Be sure to give credit where credit is due. Link back to other blogs when you read something that you want to post about - don't just steal their idea and post it as your own.

5. Make your blog reflect who you are with pretty graphics, extra info in the sidebar, etc.

6. Be sure to comment on other blogs .. I am so encouraged by comments and so I need to comment on other blogs, too, so that they can feel the same way!

7. Finally, do not let your blog take over your life! It needs to enhance your life and not take over every bit of free time that you have. If your family starts to complain about "all the time you spend online," then it's time to reevaluate your priorities.

May. 19, 2006 - Confessions of a jabbermouth

Posted in Misc Thoughts

OK. I have a confession to make. I don't understand people who don't have anything to say on their Blogs. Is that even possible? I was reading some of the forums and apparently this is an actual issue for some people...My biggest concern is that I will run out of years before I have time to say everything I want!

Of course my extra time is limited so I have to squeeze in a few minutes here snd there to make entries, but having nothing to say will not be the reason I don't post here. I might not post because the children are sick or because we go on a trip (I hope, I hope, I hope) or because our homeschool days get so full of learning and living or even because I get extremely involved with reading good health and nutrition information...but not because I close my eyes and come up with a blank...nothing...It seems I am always excited about something and homeschooling only fuels that fire.

My dear husband is like me in a lot of ways and having strong opinions is one of them. I'm surprised he hasn't jumped at the opportunity to post here...but he did tell me that he didn't want to because " I only make people mad, Deb...they don't want to hear what I have to say". Well, I like to read challenging things... but maybe not everyone is like me.

Ok, that is my morning thoughts. Now I'm off to wake the oldest children and get breakfast started. We have a busy day ahead of us and we need to be ready for Miss Beulah to come over....she is the precious lady who helps me clean on Friday mornings. See! Something else to talk about! Now you are thinking "Someone to clean for her? She must be wealthier than I thought!"

Nope!

More on Miss Beulah later!

Have a glorious Friday!

About Me

Here you can visit our happy little acre, where we homeschool our 5 children. We believe in love of God, simplicity of life, sense of humor, and love of learning. I hope you will find encouragement while you are here. (Note: We like Hank the Cowdog.:-) )

Come and visit my other blog:
Sunydazy Days

Once upon a time, when things were not so complex...there was a handsome
farm boy (college boy) from the great woods of the Northwest
who came to the south on his
white stallion (White Honda Civic)
and won Buttercup's (Sunydazy's) heart.
He laid his heart at the foot of
her dress and said "Our love can be
like a storybook story. Will you be my bride?"

She accepted and they began talking
and dreaming of their perfect future
together.

Since that time they have together endured
fire swamps, ROUS's, the pit of despair
and yes, they have even teetered on
the edge of the cliff's of insanity (tee hee!)

Though their future was not quite what
they expected they still believe
in True Love.

This blog is all about the rest
of their lives where they are living
'Happily Ever After' in the land
of La Kooka Rancha.

They love to say 'you keep using
that word...I do not think it means
what you think it means.' and
'Hallo, my name is Inigo Montoya'
...but their favorite phrase is
'As you wish'....
