Hi everyone!
I haven't really used this blog a whole lot to just talk about life... usually because I prefer expressing myself creatively: poems, spiritual truths, other things... But some really exciting things have been happening, so I thought I'd share some of them with you all!
Well, first, tonight was a regional competiton for some things the young people at my church are doing. I competed in the singing (solo and duet with Millie Keith, my sis!) and in drama. What fun! There was also a puppet team, but my schedule was too busy to allow me to do that as well!
A lot of the paperwork and judge sheets were being filled out AT CHURCH just minutes before our performance! It was somewhat crazy! Needless to say, we all got through with flying colors! All the categories were promoted to the next level! YEAH! I sang "How Beautiful" by Twila Paris for my solo, and enjoyed ever second of it! If you would all pray for the people involved in all these competitions, it would be wonderful!
So, that was an "adventure", but, according to my title, there is supposed to be a surprise told about in this entry! Well, here it comes!
After all the competing was over, there was a service we all attended that was specifically directed at the young adults/teens. It was great! The teacher was amazing, his message was bold, and I walked away from his teaching ready to keep pushing to make a bold statement for Christ! But, there was one catch to the whole thing... he wanted to do a demonstration... so I was chosen, along with a young man around my age, to be part of the "illustration". He had us stand up with him, and in his hands he held a paper towel with three caramel apples on sticks. He asked us to each pick one. The young man let me go first, so I innocently took the one nearest to me. Then he took one, leaving one extra on the towel.
"Alright," the teacher said. "Now, close your eyes, both of you."
After a nervous glance, we both did.
"Okay," our teacher says, "Take a bite out of your apple."
We both protested, a little nervous about biting into something we couldn't see. But, eventually, we both bit into our apples, making loud crunching noises.
It took me a couple seconds to realize something was wrong with my apple.
It crunched like an apple... but once the familiar taste kicked in, I realized with disgust that I was chewing a caramel onion! The taste got stronger in my mouth, and it wasn't fun swallowing! I opened my eyes, which were now watering, to see the teacher and my friend's faces wrinkling as they noticed the strong smell of my "treat". It seems that my friend got a normal apple... while I was the lucky one! We all shared a good laugh, then I went to throw the foul-smelling dessert away... it was stinking up the sactuary!
A word of advice: NEVER eat onions with caramel. It will leave you wrinkling your ENTIRE FACE... plus it gives you bad breath!
Live Well,
Laugh Often,
Love Much!
God bless!
