More on Anger!!

       “Scorners set a city aflame,
But wise men turn away anger.” Prov. 29:8

“He who is slow to anger has great understanding,
But he who is quick-tempered exalts folly.” Prov. 14:29

So, not quickly becoming angry and showing malice towards others is a sign of understanding and wisdom! And, oh joy, demonstrating wrath is foolish! Ouch!

I know that I sometimes display temper problems... okay, it can be more than sometimes. Life is hard and it’s difficult not to become angry about little things. It’s hard not to get irritated at siblings, parents, friends, teachers… the list could go on forever! But it says in the Bible that we’re not to act out of anger! Well, that's enough to make me angry! (Okay... not really, but it is SUCH a challenge!)

So, Jesus got angry a couple times about the use of the temple and the behavior of the priests... was He sinning in doing so? Well, we all know Jesus never sinned, so there is, of course, another verse I want to add!

“Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,” Eph. 4:26

We can be angry about something, especially if it’s in a righteous cause. If someone steals your purse, it’s alright to be a little angry that it happened. We just can’t SIN because of that anger. Instead of ranting about what a jerk the guy is, decide to quietly forgive him and not dwell on it anymore (umm, yes, I AM speaking from personal experience about the purse thing!). If someone does something to make you angry, don’t blow up at them or go off and mutter horrid things about them. Kindly ask them to stop and, if they won’t, you can ask God for help and forgive them. Another thing that’s important is not harboring anger towards someone… that turns into bitterness. When you’re bitter, you can’t see anything good in that person and are always irritated with them. It damages you more than anyone else. And, as it said in our verse from a couple weeks ago, we’re to cast both anger AND bitterness from us.

Nov. 3, 2009 - Anger Control

Posted by ChickenGirl
I have to agree with you on that one. I remeber I got really mad at this one girl for bumping me on a "No-Bumping" go-cart ride at a recreation center, and the rules were "You bump anyone and I kick you off the track" and she carried on bumping me and I got kick off and she got to stay on the track. I got mad at her and she thought it was really funny about what happened to me. Later I decided to forgive her (1/2 an hour later or so) and love her with Christian love, and not continue to dwell on what happened, and now when I think of her I only look at her with Christianly love.

So, I have been having a lot of trouble actually keeping my anger at a minimum (I also find this hard.). We all go on this journey at one point of our lives or another.

You say it sister! I totally agree. It is VERY hard to be angry and yet not act sinfully in your anger. Yet, it IS POSSIBLE! Thanks for reminding me of this. There is also the verse in James that talks about being quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. (James 1:19) Keep up the good work, er, writing! GO girl!
