Taking the Challenge

Mar. 18, 2006 - ~* The Importance of Compassion *~

It is rare that I post anything other than my SSAB on Saturdays, yet I find myself posting two more times this evening.  If you didn't read my last post, it's much more important than this one, so please read it first. The family it concerns needs your prayers!.

On to this post:  Many times I have visited blogs of ladies who seem to have it all together.  Some I've enjoyed immensely and they've left me feeling encouraged to keep striving for the goal.  Others have left me with a bad taste in my mouth.  I've started to blog on this several times, but couldn't get the right wording...couldn't say what I wanted to say without sounding condescending myself.

Tonight I read a post on La Shawn Barber's blog - (La Shawn Barber's Corner -the post is entitled "9 Lives")

that perfectly captured what I was trying to express:  the importance, the need for compassion!

It was this element that was lacking in these posts that left me feeling disturbed.  Disturbed for young impressionable mothers who would feel immensely burdened because they were not as "together" as the writer.  Disturbed with the writer for the atmosphere of pride and condemnation that surrounded their post.

I'm all for sharing our accomplishments, our growth,  and God's blessings in our lives.  But we cross a line when we condemn others because they are not as far along in their journey as we are, when we don't have patience with others we percieve as being "weaker", when we lose our compassion.  And in crossing that line, we forget that we ourselves are not as far along as those ahead of us.

How much better we all are when we share God's goodness with compassion and love and encouragement to those who are striving for the mark.  We are one body, not separate competing entities.

I Cor. 12: 22 - 26 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: 23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow  more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. 24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked: 25 That there should be no schism  in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. 26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
