Taking the Challenge

May. 1, 2006 - ~* Pro- LEGAL-Immigration*~

Posted in Our Culture

I am pro-immigration...legal immigration.  As with most Americans, go back far enough in my lineage and you will find that my ancestors migrated to this great country from a foreign country (accept my Native-American ancestors...and even they immigrated at some point, but I digress).

Why all the hubbub today about immigration?  It's because of people who want to come in illegally and then be made legal...basically, they want to cut in line in front of the thousands of other foreigners who want to come to this great country following the usual legal means of doing so. Ironically,  these illegals feel grieved and discriminated against if anyone even dares suggest they should gain citizenship like every other foreigner trying to immigrate.

Additionally, they want to fly the flag of the country they are leaving from and even sing their own version of our national anthem!

Am I angry about this?  You bet!  I'm angry at the politicians who have winked at this for years and years and now (I think due to the brave militiamen movement) want to do something because they see political gain.  I'm angry at a neighboring government that wants to make money off of our country and use our country for their benefit, while remaining hostile to Americans visiting their country.  (Do some research on what happens to Americans visiting Mexico who inadvertantly misunderstand or break a law there...I'm not talking criminal behavior, I'm talking someone misunderstanding a traffic sign, or other minor mistake and being treated harshly as a result.)

I'm angry at a group of people (not all of the Mexican aliens or immigrents fit into this group) who want to come to America and benefit from our culture without assimilating into our culture. I'm angry that they want to flee yet hold onto the country that has created their poverty through corrupt governing. I'm angry with businesses, who for the sake of greed, hire illegals and make the competition fierce for those who want to hire only legals.

I am NOT angry with those who want to come to America for a better way of life.  I want America to always be a land that welcomes immigrants.  I just want those immigrants to come legally and I want them to embrace America and become Americans - not try to change us into the very country they are fleeing.
