Thanks, Annie, for hostessing this fun meme!
Annie says," This week I decided we should revisit our time of salvation, or a special time in your spiritual life. Was there a moment when you became a Christian, or did it take a while? Can you remember that special time in your life?"
I was raised all my life attending church. When the church doors were open, we were there. Old gospel music was standard fare in our home...remember The Happy Goodmans?? And, I won't even start naming all the quartets.
People talk about their love language...I think music must be mine. My earliest "God encounter" happened when I was 4 or 5 years old. My parents had company and were in another room, but they had the old record player (in a big cabinet, that has a name, that is totally playing with my 40+ brain!) playing gospel music in the living room. For some reason I ended up sitting down next to the big stereo/record player cabinet. I can't tell you anything about who was singing or the name of the song. I just remember it was about Heaven and God's presence touched this little girls heart in a big way and tears just streamed down my face.
My next major "God encounter" was when I was 9 or 10 and we had a visiting evangelist. I committed my life to Christ during that meeting.
Then I went through the teen years. Our home life was in turmoil, lot's of conflict and uncertainty. Dad had quit going to church for years. Mom insisted we kids keep going with her, which I wasn't always thankful for and at times resented. Now, however, I'm thankful she insisted we attend with her. Dad, much later in his life, did recommit his life to the Lord.
When I was17, I attended a special family camp and had another "God encounter" where I totally gave my all to Christ.
As I mentioned earlier, I think music is my love language. God has used music so often in my life to encourage me, to comfort me, to teach me, and sometimes just to shower me with His love. I think, if I had to sum up my life in song, this song would capture my life best :
He's Been Faithful
by Carol Cymbala
In my moments of fear, through every pain, every tear, there's a God who's been faithful to me. When my strength was all gone, when my heart had no song still in love He's proved faithful to me. Every word He's promised, is true. What I thought was impossible, I see my God do.
He's been faithful to me. Looking back, His love and mercy I see. Though in my heart I have questioned, even failed to believe, yet, He's been faithful, faithful to me.
"When my heart looked away the many times I could not pray, still my God He was faithful to me. The days I spent so selfishly, reaching out for what pleased me, even then God was faithful to me. Every time I come back to Him, He is waiting with open arms and I see once again.
He's been faithful to me. Looking back His love and mercy I see. Though in my heart I have questioned even failed to believe, yet, He's been faithful, faithful to me."

Music can really move my soul too Sheryl. I love praise and worship time in the congregation we have been visiting, it is so wonderful to just praise God through music. Thank you for sharing your story.

That is so very nice. I love good church music! Well I guess music that uplifts Jesus isn't just church music. It is life music!
My husband doesn't attend church, but Lord willing, that will change.
