MSN Encarata dictionary defines a hero as:

Definition: 1. remarkably brave person: somebody who commits an act of remarkable bravery or who has shown ... quality such as great courage or strength of character.

Just another example of heroic behavior by our military.

May. 28, 2006 - ~ Thank You to Our Service Men and Women *~

Posted in Our Culture

Our daughter is home from college for the summer.  And we will be joining the ranks of those who take advantage of this holiday weekend to enjoy family, the outdoors, and the great American past-time: BBQ  (you thought I was going to say baseball, huh? ;)

In the midst of our enjoyment is the recognition of the fact that a great price has been paid so that we can enjoy this weekend with family, in peace, comfort, and safety.

And so,  we want to say Thank You!  Thank you to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and to their families.  Thank you to those serving today.

Thank you for going, for giving, for paying the price.  Thank you for choosing military food over homecooked, for choosing a cot over a real mattress. Thank you for enduring cold showers, less-than-sanitary conditions, unreliable availability of basic goods.  Thank you for choosing sleepless nights, fearful moments, hidden enemies.  Thank you for hours of practice and training.  Thank you for leaving families and friends.  Thank you for giving up so much and gaining so little.

Thank you for enduring media lies and taunts.  Thank you for putting up with public ignorance.

Thank you to your families who live moment to moment wondering if you're safe.  Thanks to them for living without you - parents and siblings living with the empty places at the table; spouses having to be mother and father to the little ones;  wives learning to be handymen, husbands learning to cook and clean.  However they are forced to try to fill the gap that you leave, we thank them.

Our family appreciates your service and we don't ever forget.  We support you, we believe in you, and we pray for you and your families.  We pray for your safety, your quick return, for you to be able to do the job that you want to do, the job you need to do.

We will probably never know or fully understand the sacrifices you've made.  We'll probably never have the pleasure and privilege of meeting you face-to-face.  But we hope that somehow you know, somehow you can hear our heart and the hearts of so many other Americans just like us...as we take a few and just say...Thank You!

May. 25, 2006 - ~* More Thoughts on the Human Exhibit in the Zoo*~

Posted in Our Culture

A while back in one of my SSAB's, I linked to Maggie Hogans blog (Maggie's Place) regarding a zoo exhibit featuring humans.  Alber Mohler re-posted a piece with his thoughts on this exhibit that is a worthy read on the subject.  Something to file away for those times kids need help countering the "humans are just animals, too" arguments.

A while back I wrote a post regarding the newer wedding dress styles, now weddings and modesty are creating a buzz in the blog-o-sphere.  Check out some of the talk:

This last link is about modesty for Christian women in general and it's one of the best pieces I've read on the subject:
