Taking the Challenge

Jun. 24, 2006 - ~* Final SSAB, June 24, 2006 *~

As you may/may not know things have been a bit hectic here and I've blogged bits and pieces, but not "real" posts.  Thankfully, that's not the case with other bloggers around here.

OreoSouza at Eleven Oreos shares what many of us felt this past week, but couldn't seem to put into words, regarding two brutally murdered soldiers.  Please, pray for our troops and their families.  In addition to the horrible things faced overseas, they sadly have to hear the anti-military rants of some pretty awful people in high places over here.  Not to mention the MSM's ongoing undermining of their operations.

Sagerats of High Desert Hi-Jinks and I are working on a modesty project, and were delighted to read a post by  homeskoolat Leaving a Legacy

on this very subject from a Christian man's perspective.

If  you're a frequent reader, you know SSAB has been very special to me.  However, the time has come to put this feature to rest.  Be assured, when I read a very special post, I'll be sure and let you know where it is, I just won't be doing a weekly SSAB anymore.

My blogging habits are changing.  Summer is always a time of reflection and re-prioritizing.  Blogging is an area that is receiving an overhaul.  Exactly how much?  I'm not sure yet.  I'm working with my honey and my Best Friend on some areas in my life that need refining...and this is one of those areas.

I don't know what all my Best Friend has in mind, but it's always good!  Stay tuned :)

Jun. 3, 2006 - ~* Saturday Share-A-Blog, June 3, 2006 *~

I'm posting this week's SSAB a tad bit early...(well, technically, it IS Saturday)...but we have a full day planned, so I figured I'd better post it while I could.  Enjoy!

This week's SSAB features some really great, thoughtful posts. So grab a cuppa, put on your seatbelt and hang on for fun and thought-filled ride.

First stop is at Humpty's blog (A Homeschooling Grandma: I must be Crazy!)

She shares an article written by Kerry Beck about the top concerns of sending your child to public school.  A very-well written piece.  One to keep on hand and share with those who are "concerned" about you homeschooling your kids.

And adding to those concerns,  Momof3FeistyKids of A Room of My Own writes about one of the reasons she took her kids out of the public school system.

Spunky at SpunkyHomeschool continues her on-line debate with Dr. Beam about homeschoolers who leave the public school system.

Another hot-topic with us homeschooling bloggers is, well, blogging.  PatriciaWHunter of Patricia Ann's Pollywog Creek Porch shares her thoughts on blogging as she approaches her one year anniversary of blogging.  She also linked to the ponderings of  Holy Experience regarding Effective Blogging.

Blogging has allowed me to meet and make friends with many people I would otherwise have never met.  It has been a privilege and a joy.  And while I will be writing more on this subject over the next few weeks of heading into my one-year anniversary, I want to take a minute and ask you to stop by the blog of someone I've "met" through HSB.  KarenW of WiredWisdom
She was one of the first people to welcome me here.  Many of you know her for the same reason.  She and her family are returning to Romania in just a few days.  If she has blessed you with encouraging words and/or if you have a heart for missions, would you do consider praying for their family as they return to Romania?  And, maybe you'd like to drop by her blog and leave her an encouraging word as they say their goodbye's here and prepare to get settled back into their lives in another country.

May. 20, 2006 - ~* Saturday Share-A-Blog, May 20, 2006 *~

Oh, the weeks and days are flying~!  It's already SSAB time!

Let's start out with a great book review by PatriciaWHunter of Patricia Ann's Pollywog Creek Porch.  She reviews a new book  that has just received two awards: "Most Original Concept of 2006" and "Outstanding Book of the Year".  This is a book I plan on purchasing soon as this looks like a book we would really enjoy reading together.

Speaking of enjoying things together, check out THESE PICTURES.  I'm such a flower lover...but this is one unique arrangement put together by  Dell at PrairieFrog Blog!  Beautiful and healthy too!

While we're on the subject of healthy, have you stopped by the Blubber Blogger's official blog site?  It's wonderful!  Not only is it enjoyable to look at, but it's chock-full of information.  From guest lectures, to weight loss tools, too contests, they are all there and so much more!  Check it out.  And if you're interested, you can sign up right there to become part of their Blubber Blogger's yahoo weight loss group.

Isn't it funny how we are always grouping ourselves?  I just mentioned the weight-loss group, and there are notebooking groups, Charlotte Mason groups, crochet groups, etc.  Then there are the more informal groups...groups that don't necessarily plan on making a group, in fact they often don't ever actually form an official group.  But they are a group by some kind of designation.  I stumbled across a group I think I'll join soon.  Not formally, since they're not that kind of group.  But informally, because I really enjoyed reading their introspective posts.  I'll start you where I came across this group, then you can link your way back to the others.  And, come back and visit here next week since I plan on joining the group by then.  Here's your starting point:  MotherHen of Sweet Life with "Where I'm From".

Oh, and one last thing:  I won a contest this week!  Look at what I won:  Contest Prize  Thanks, Sagerats of High Desert Hi-Jinks for hostessing such a fun contest!

I hope you enjoyed this week's SSAB as much as I did! Have a blessed week!

May. 13, 2006 - ~* Saturday Share-A-Blog, May 13, 2006 *~

It is my favorite time of the week again, SSAB!!  Get your favorite cuppa and enjoy some great reads!

Speaking of your favorite cuppa, do you enjoy a great cup of good coffee?  Like to treat yourself to a special cuppa now and again?  Well, one thing our troops enjoy is receiving great coffee from home.  ClagettsFLstyle at Under His Construction tells how you can join Boca Java and send not only great coffee, but a personal message to our troops!  Can't think of a better time to do something like this, can you?

I mentioned in the past 10 books other than the Bible that profoundly affected my life.  I don't know that I've mentioned some of the greatest historical fiction writers that I enjoy.  Brock and Bodie Thoene are wonderful writers who really take the time to research their work.  In particular, I'm referring to their Zion Chronicles/Zion Covenent series.  Honey Bee at Honey from the Hive just posted how these books have impacted her and also shares a personal reply from the authors regarding some questions she asked.  It's nice to know that not only are these authors great researchers and writers, but nice people, too.

Speaking of nice people,  Connie Ward at Wardsward shares an obituary of someone dear to us all.

One thing that happens with nice people is they usually enjoy getting together with other nice people and talking about what's happening in their families, their neighborhoods, their schools, etc.  Sagerats from High Desert Hi-Jinks is always so good to keep us posted on the happenings of HSB's Front Porch.  Drop by and visit with some old friends and make some new.

And in case you missed this feature on the Front Porch, Sagerats and her kids made one of the nifty crafts featured on the Front Porch.  I think I, Miss Thumbs, could even make those...and aren't they just the cutest?

While we're on the subject of visiting with friends and sharing the good things in life, Creativehsmom of Who Said Learning Can't be Fun? shares a great, FREE, e-book!  Now, that's downright friendly, wouldn't you agree?

Ahhh...friends, fun, and freebies!  Yep, this is my favorite part of my blogging week!

OH!  One last thing, to all the mom's reading this: HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

May. 6, 2006 - ~* Saturday Share-A-Blog, May 6, 2006*~

There have been so many "heavy" things taking place and in the news to discuss and I really wanted to keep this week's SSAB a bit on the lighter side.  Hope you enjoy this week's version.

I'm so excited to have come across this blogger through blestwithsons.  She is a single-married mom that is sold out to Christ.  Read her testimony, then visit her business site.  As soon as my purse arrives, I'll share a picture of it.

WOW!  Check out Mothman's Moths in Michigan blog

I didn't know moths could actually be beautiful!  (HT: Fish in My Hair    while you're at TC's Fish in My Hair blog, be sure and check out the purse she made and let her know what you think of it...the big question being: is it fashionable today or too old ladyish). Stay at TC's and minute more and read this post of the Theory of Fat and fat-lobbing...just be sure to duck if you're losing weight!

And one more funny before you go:  Check out this video at Who Said Learning Can't be Fun?

Hope you enjoyed a lighter version of SSAB :)
